If he gets the British title by the end of the year, that's fine. He should challenge for the European title in the first half of next year and then face a ranked opponent by year's end. That's fine. Early 2017 he'll be after a belt.

    If he doesn't get derailed.

Wilder was being hyped before he beat Stiverne and his record other than is one of nothing but bums, journeymen and has-beens. Wilder spent six years and over 30 fights as a pro without once facing a live opponent yet he was still being hype by some Americans as their next great hope for the division, he had proven nothing and fought nobody yet he was still being hyped up beyond reason.

You took a shot at the British because of what you see as undue hype from some British fans towards Joshua and claimed it was only the British who acted in that way. That was a weak argument.

Frankly, while he's not proven anything yet being only in his second year and 14 fights into his pro-career Joshua has got a long way to go before he's even half the hype-job Wilder was.

Mike Tyson was being intensively trained by Cus from 14-15 y.o. - living with his family and being continually inculcated with his boxing philosophy. I think he was a Junior Olympic Champ at 15 or 16 y.o. Joshua hadn't even walked into a boxing gym until 18 y.o.

Notwithstanding the above, demanding that Joshua compare to a complete one-off (a feral kid, privately trained into a boxing machine, and who underwent a remarkably rapid rise) seems a bit false. Particularly given Tyson's eventual burn-out. Perhaps his example is one to be avoided, rather than emulated.

Similarly, lots of posters slagging Joshua and saying he is just another Price. I suspect the way he is being handled is precisely to avoid him being the next Price. Price's career was kiboshed by a diet of bums that led abruptly a dangerous opponent he was ill-prepared to deal with. Maybe Joshua's handlers are aiming for a more incremental stepping up of the quality.

There seems no compelling reason for Hearn to hurry Joshua - he's 25 y.o. so has a good 10 years of peak strength to come. The desires of snipers on forums don't really compare to the reasons of those paying the training expenses.

Personally, I would love to see Joshua face far more dangerous opposition. Maybe get the British title as an aperitif but then start challenging World top 10 ranked fighters asap. But, if I was his manager / trainer, with so much at stake and such great penalties for one loss (again look at Price: national hope to laughing stock), I would take it steady.

He's a little over hyped in the sense that he's done nothing to deserve it. He looks promising but it's way too early to tell.

I saw Camerelle easily outbox Joshua in the Olympics, but the home town judges gave it a split decision to Joshua who lost the fight..................Joshua can probably knock Wilder out right now though.....................Vlad would knock Wilder or Joshua out................
