So if you want to argue that fury won, which we've all heard repeated a gazallion, times due to some believing a judge failed to see the fight how they see the fight, then I will argue vehemently that Wilder won, on the basis that the ref failed to do his job as I feel a ref should do their job.
Agreed, it was nowhere near the shutout that some made it out to be. Fury was slicker from the middle rounds and outboxed him but got dropped hard in compensation, that's about it. The commentary bias was appaling, one of the worst I've heard and that was on a yank stream. Tons of Fury's punches that hit gloves, air or forearms and were talked about in revered terms while solid Wilder jabs that snapped Tyson's head back were ignored for the first several rounds.
I think the fact that he over landed 1-2 punches per round than Wilder, shows it wasn't some masterclass schooling that everyone has been led to believe. I didn't listen to the commentary during the fight and when that happens you can actually form a balanced view of the fight, and it was very close between rounds with nothing much happening throughout until the knock downs. Yes Fury had his moments where he was pulling off and landing nice eye catching combinations, but they really were not having any effect on Wilder at all, besides forcing him to reset. Factor in the point he was the challenger, got knocked down twice, was on the back foot throughout and nearly died to boot, and there is hardly a just argument for awarding him a win. The best you can ask for is a draw and even that is clutching really. A rematch as much as I'd like to see isn't a good idea for Fury considering wilder is looking to bulk up to 245lbs. Not to mention he will find his range a lot earlier this time as he did in the later stage of the first fight. Fury will have to roll the dice and tempt fate twice as he will be recieving far heavier punches and greater damage if the rematch is to go forward. His best hope is for Wilder to fight Joshua and Joshua perform a miracle so he can fight Joshua who doesn't hit as hard.
But that is just saying his WIFE doesn't want him to fight and lets be honest no wife will want to watch her husband go through that so this isn't news. No whete does it say Fury doesnt want the rematch. And just to put it out there imo the ref in that fight is one of the best in the business. Tyson Fury did get knocked ddown hard but you can see him looking at the ref listening to the count. No way should of it been waved off 'without hesitation' Ref deserves a paycheck for letting the fighters FIGHT.
Ben Davison is already talking about fury letting WIlder fight Joshua instead, so it's not just his wife telling him to stay away from Wilder. The referee who I've already exposed isn't the best in the business. He's waved fights off in a similar situation, the only difference is their name wasn't Tyson Fury so he didn't give them additional time to recuperate and stretch out his count This content is protected
Ben Davison isn't Tyson Fury. He may have his preference, but he hasn't told us Fury's. Personally, I think the rematch should be the priority for Fury. Beat Wilder, then look at his options moving forward. It's easy for a trainer to want his fighter to take a couple of easier fights now, but then no-one can say what that would do for Fury's motivation. I think a big problem for Fury could be the Breazeale mandatory situation. As long as Wilder has that belt, the mandatory won't be forced. I wouldn't put it past Haymon to insert a rematch clause for the fight, and then have Breazeale force the mandatory as soon as Fury wins. In that situation, Fury would be stripped and Haymon would still control the belt. If there is a rematch clause, the likes of Warren and MTK should try and force the WBC to guarantee that they won't strip him if he wins, and defends against Wilder.
Only a complete PANSY would complain that the fight wasn't stopped when Fury was knocked down .... Soft, squeamish pussified dimwits pretending to be boxing fans.. Scared of a bit of blood and guts. The referee did a fine job. A championship fight, he gave a count and let Fury get on with it. Both fighters deserve creditt, as does the referee. So you were glad the referee left the stevenson fight continue on until he suffered brain damage? You were glad George Groves was allow to pummel down on Eduard Gutnecht until he became a mindless vegetable? I assure you had Fury suffered terribly and was put in an induced coma, you'd be singing a different tune about the ref, along with the rest of the boxing community. We'd see threads such ''Should boxers where head gear' 'Should there be two ref's in the ring to give a second opinion'' and more and more crying about should there be this and that introduced as preventive measures /
To be fair mate, Wilder was barely landing anything significant on Fury throughout the fight, nothing really clean anyway. He wasn’t suffering accumulative damage, losing round after round. He got caught clean in 12th, but it’s been proven that the ref made the right decision. Fury was ok. He got up and wasn’t just hanging on for survival, he was putting his hands behind his back and putting it on Wilder. He won the rest of that round. There are fights that should be stopped, Groves v Gutnecht is a prime example as you say...Fury was absolutely fine to continue though.

I'm not disputing that Fury was later to be found fit to continue, the issue is that when a man is knocked out unconscious, the ref does not patiently wait to find out if the fighter has miraculous recuperative abilities. If you can find me of a similar instance, then I'm all eyes and ears Because I have never seen in boxing where a fighter lay motionless on the floor where a ref decides to wait for a response. It's waved off at that moment.
Fury was fine and he proved it. You're talking about some imaginary scenario where Deontay Wilder beats the **** out of Fury and hospitalizes him .... dream on.
No I don't have to imagine anything. I just need to go back to the fact that Fury was given very special treatment and the ref through his misconduct deviated from the rules in order to give Fury extra time to recover. And of course being the first ref I've seen not wave a fight off after a fighter is unresponsive for over 5-6 seconds. Marquess of Queensberry Rule 4 states as follows - If either man falls through weakness or otherwise, he must get up unassisted, 10 seconds to be allowed him to do so, the other man meanwhile to return to his corner, and when the fallen man is on his legs the round is to be resumed and continued until the three minutes have expired. Show me where it states the ref is given discretion to give fighter extra time to walk off a knockdown.
