Yea Polish I agree. Something's gotta give for the US boxing scene. And I dont mean the mexican-americans. They're great but US boxing scene is really lacking red-white-blue star in the higher weights. Someone that brings excitement. Wilder may be the only hope. He should try to make something big this year. Really big. Like a fight with Wlad. Yea he lost his previous two, but one was a decision and the other was 11 rds slugfest. Wilder can still try and do better than both Fury and AJ and KO Wlad in the first half of the fight. This can put him on the map for many casual american fans fights with Washington, Stiverne, Molina dont do anything for him but pad his record.
You cant get more American than Deontay. I believe he represents whats great in our great country. Came from the bottom worked his way up to be a rotating shift Bud delivery man supporting his daughter with spina bifida while pursuing his dream to be the HW Champion (which he already attained) now going for unification . Joshua-Klitschko was magical. It was better then Rocky. It was real. Deontay already flew to Russia representing the USA and scared the Russian champ away. A unification against Joshua is all Deontay is away from legendary status. Love them both but Joshua is establishment and Deontay is anti-establishment. I wouldnt underestimate Deontay Wilder. I give a lot of ish to Wilder on this board but I like him more than Fury. Wayy more. Because his fights are fun to watch and he seems a decent guy, unlike Tyson. As a north american, I wish Wilder would become a star like AJ, this sport needs someone like that over here. But AJ also has the Furys, Whyte, Haye, Chisora, Bellew. Wilder doesnt have that, or does he ? i can only think of Ortiz Miller Breazeale. Maybe Jennings, Mansour. But he doesnt fight any of them to create some buzz and rivalry. Why ? I don't see Wilder standing much of a chance against Joshua. He may last a few rounds but I think Wilder has a lot of defensive liabilities that Joshua will exploit when they finally fight. I could be wrong. It's the heavyweight division so one punch could prove me wrong. I just feel Joshua has more skills and is more proven which gives him a much greater chance to land the shot that hands Wilder his first loss.
