Juanma-Burns?!

I'm all for fighters challenging themselves with superb opposition. Even better when they are Scottish.

 

Well i have to agree im all for any boxer that seeks out challenges and i am a big fan of Burns and Nelson great team :thumbsup

 

Burns will get more then an ass beating JM is in a whole different class.

 

I am not saying Burns would win but i think he is a fighter that can raise his level if needed just fight to level of his oppent if you seen the fight against the small irish guy which was awful you would not have thought he could do that to martinez then his level dropped because he knew what evansen brought

This IMO has to be almost laughed off in terms of Warren offering $3M , i mean that figure makes absolutley no sense at all :deal , so im gonna ignore that and comment as though the fight may actually take place , and i will say this , this IMO would be the best bit of match making Frank Warren would have put together since Tszyu Hatton .........

Im gonna say this too , a lot of people on this forum clearly have not seen enough of Lopez to make a realistic judgement of how badly he'd destroy Ricky Burns ............. because i dont think he would , looking in the Ring Magazine P4P rankings and seeing little old Juanma in there at #9 doesnt mean **** !!! factors involved here , Juanma 12 months ago was a SBW , Ricky Burns is a big strong SFW , Juanma has struggled against the upright 1 - 2 style fighters , and is chinny :deal , Burns walked through Martinez , yes he was caught a lot early , and was predominantly outclassed on the inside pretty much the whole fight , but he took home a much deserved decision styles aside in no uncertain terms he walked through him ............

I would suggest Juanma is a level or 2 above Martinez but he has shown weakness'es to styles and his chin , additionally he would be giving away an astronomical size advantage away too , this is by no means a blow out for Lopez , and lets say Warrens supposid $3M offer is true , this would be Juanma's career high payday hands down .

I really like the idea , and would love this to be true , but sadly NO ..... :deal for many many reasons

Jesus he beats Marinez and he has a chance V Lopez. What other fights was it that make people think Burns can beat Lopez? Was it the defeats to Johansson and Arthur who have both gone onto dominante at world level? Was it the points victories over Akaba? O'Hara? etc? Just stop it please. Lopez on the other hand has destroyed Ponce, only man to stop Penalosa, just beaten Rafa Marquez. Lopez has proved it time and time again. Yes Ricky done well aginast Martinez, but I dont think Lopez would be fighting O'Hara,Evensen then the winner of Appleby Layera somehow do you?

 

Juanma is one of the best fighters in the world right now. Ricky lacks the sharpness and power to keep him off. If Rafael Marquez couldn't take him out with his counter-punches delivered with proper leverage, how is Burns going to outbox him? No power, much poorer technique and easy to back to the ropes.

That's a painful night for Ricky.

 

:deal couple that with the fact Juanma like to walk his opponent down. He has power in both hands and is a remarkably good finisher...

To thewinfella, no negativity at burns on here mate. I think its good he and billy would take the fight and if true its good that frank is taking risks. Posts on here have been of the consensus Juanma wins easily, but that doesnt mean people are being negative, just realistic :good

Completely different styles. Burns isn't a pressure fighter and, even if he was, Rogers was getting the **** pummelled out of him for the first half of the fight. No way Burns could take that.

Yes it is. Burns carries no real power at world level and he can be hurt/knocked down/out chin wise [it's not bad, but not great]. His overall level of boxing skill to me seems disciplined but basic. Quite simply, I think JuanMa is the better boxer aswell as the better brawler and frankly a level about Burns.

 

I don't often say a fighter made a mistake, since I prefer to give the other fighter credit, but Juanma simply blew his wad and was on fumes for the last two rounds against Mtagwa. In terms of rounds Lopez was far ahead - it was only because he took a beating in the last round that there's a misconception Rogers was competitive.

Mtagwa's a decent journeyman. Not awful, but a good test. Juanma passed and made some adjustments as a result: move up in weight, be more methodical, work off the jab more.

You also have to factor that since then Lopez has beaten Luevano and Marquez, both much better fighters than Burns will ever be.
