I watched this video of Julian Jackson yesterday, and wondered how he was able to hit so hard.

He defintely has some fast twitch muscles, but he also used his whole body when punching

He turned his hips ahead of his hands.

A lot of his punches also came from weird angles.

Such snap, and he was deceptively quick. Perfect technique.

One of absurdly few fighters for whom one-punch knockouts were the norm.

It's interesting how it talks about Jackson becoming a power puncher after switching away from a more elusive style. Makes you wonder how many others in history chose not to make that switch, but could have.

Also, I feel a bit sorry for the first and second poor guys who walked into a Jackson fight expecting a nice, technical boxing match based on all of Jackson's previous performances.

I always wanted to see his fight vs Milton Leaks, but i don't know if the footage exists. Jackson has described this fight as being one of his best nights and toughest fight, as he had to prove himself after losing to McCallum. Apparently Jackson gets floored early but comesback to stop Leaks in the 10th round, it would be interesting to this fight. As i've not seen Jackson floored before then comeback from it, and also it would be interesting to see Jackson stop a fighter late on instead of early.

Perfect leverage, good punching form and solid technique, uses his back and hips to create the full torque into his punches.

    He hit pretty good.

    This.

McCallum commented how quickly Julian's punches arrived on target. Mike said after a few shots he knew he needed to get Julian out of there before he himself was put to sleep.

One thing that is overlooked is that Julian was actually a very good boxer. His effort against Thomas Tate showed he had good ring intelligence and multiple tools in his arsenal. But God attached mule legs to his shoulders so we rarely noticed it.

I heard in his early career that he was actually more of a boxer, although I haven't seen his really early fights not sure if they were recorded. But he did show some good skills vs Tate at times, I remember Bobby Czyz actually pointed that out in commentary.

I've never seen fighters go so quickly into rigor mortis as when he hit them. Graham, Drayton, Norris, all of them and more were instantly turned into planks of wood and then fell to the floor as if dead, unconscious before they started falling. It was downright eerie, you just don't see guys do that to people. Not regularly like he did.

Does he possess dangerous knockout power? Yes.

But I always felt like he had incredible ability to setup a punch. At the end of the day, one punch knockouts occure from precise and accurately landed shot. Having devastating knockout power just helps getting a more brutal result.

Just look the way he was patient against Herol Graham and hit him with beautifully setup overhand right. Look how he threw the right hand against Terry Norris, Dennis Milton and Wayne Powell. Those are some of his greatest one punch knockouts.

No matter how hard you punch, once the opponent sees it coming. You can't one punch them. Even Jackson had to lay a beating to knock out Buster Drayton and Derrick Drane also took every single one of his bombs without taking a knee. In conclusion, his opponents who are shelling up and bracing for his punches weren't one punched easily by Jackson. If you wanna see more examples, just watch his more of his TKO wins. Where he really struggled to put his opponents down mainly becuz they were shelling up and taking his punches.
