The only ones I would hope to retire are those who are at the very edge of getting permanently damaged, everybody else should make their own decisions. Liddell is starting to show signs of slurring his word, a weakened chin (he used to be known for his chin), and loss of reaction time. Same goes for Nog, although I can't tell if he is slurring his words, his chin is fading fast, and his style invites on so much pressure from the opponent. I don't know about Sakuraba, he has taken some massive beatings and his legs and back will never be properly healthy, but I can't tell how much damage has been done to his brain. I hope he just takes fights that are likely to be grappling fests with old or non dangerous opponents.
its a list of my favourite fighters, and i think you could be right. maybe wandy can crack a few heads yet though.
Pulver (see Big Nog) Shamrock (We know you need money, turn in some applications) Big Nog (Not winning a title ever again, get out while you still have you're health) Cro Cop
Coleman is old and shot to ****. Shamrock is old and shot to ****. Liddell I really REALLY want to see get out before he winds up permafried. Cro Cop is up there with Liddell. Wandy should be good for a bit at least.
I agree with Jens, hes one of those tragedies waiting to happen. Coleman, Big Nog, Cop, Lidell, Randy pretty soon Wand can still go and Sharmrock I would still want to see the snot beaten of.
It could be tough to sell Liddell on the idea of retirement because of how much he still has physically. I realize he is not the same man from a few years ago, but watch the fight with Franklin. Liddell was dominating Franklin until he got caught. Liddell has made statements suggesting that he will know he shouldn't compete anymore once he has lost it in training. If he really feels that way, it may be a while barring an athletic commission ban. I would like to see him go at this point, but I won't be shocked if he sticks around. Coleman has not adapted his game at all, and is still good enough to beat Bonnar. Coleman has no chance of being near champion status without a Couture like age adaption to his style. I don't think Coleman has it in him to do that. I hoped Sakuraba would retire after his tear jerking performance against Galesic. I'm still wishing he had. Cro Cop is still a talented fighter. He is either too unwilling to slightly adapt his style to fit his age, or he has lost his competitive mindset. Either way, I think he needs to move on to other things. Big Nog fights like a zombie lately. If that is all he has left, he should go too. Wanderlei still has some fight left in him. Couture will not be a champion again, but he is still a top contender.
Pulver's refusal to go away has already crossed the boundary into tragic. There's no way he's going to come out of this last year or so unscathed neurologically...and if it keeps going...:verysad Jardine, if he loses again for a sixth consecutive time next month, needs to realize his best days are behind him and that the worst is yet to come.
Jens a tragedy ? Pulver just gets choked out in every fight hell I used to go choked out multiple times a night every day during the week when I first started Jiujitsu. When Pulver starts asking what happened ? In every fight then hes on the verge of serious injury.
If Couture fights Shogun I'll take Couture in any kind of avatar bet you want to make. You'll look good in your Oscar De la Hoya avatar again.:deal
