absolute disgrace obviously, the knock down and point deduction round was the most obvious bit of corrupt refereeing i think ive ever seen anyway what i want to know is does ottke always fight like that? you can **** off if you think im going to watch anymore of his fights to find out. all the holding and then looking at the referee, all the intentional headbutting and then moaning to the referee, saying any body shot is either a kidney shot or below the belt etc. and worst of all, worst of all - complaining to the referee when he gets punched in the face. its ridiculous to see a boxer that has modelled his style on knowing the ref and the judges are corrupt and i was just watching it thinking how does he have so many fans? why would anybody support that?
I never liked him or rated him to highly. He has some people on here that rated him. That night showed why i disliked him. He was an ok boxer but to watch he was dreadful to watch on most occasions...loved a big ring as well. He was no Arthur Abraham he was decent at what he did but i always felt Calzaghe would batter him and Reid beating him for round after round showed me my feelings were right.
Aye Reid got totally shafted in that one, cheatin *******s for sure. Ottke was pretty average for me, got plenty ropey decisions
I may be wrong here but in the later rounds did Reid not kind of give up a few rounds. The refereeing was comical but I remember thinking to myself it wasn't the all out robbery people were claiming as Reid let him back in it. Reid still won the fight i'd like to add. May be wrong and to be honest ive no intention of finding out for myself.
It's been so long mate i forget. All i can remember is Reid hitting him and ref deducting points for ridiculous things. I had Reid up by a few i know that.
Yes, Ottke certainly took a few of the later rounds to tighten it up, but to be fair to Reid he was disgusted with what was happening and you can't really blame him for losing focus after the undeserved **** the ref was giving him and the playacting from Sven.
I actually had Ottke winning the fight from recollection. I couldn't count the kd and i had to count the stupid point off which would have given the fight to reid, even in spite of what happened in the later rounds.
Not every Ottke fight is as blatantly corrupt and the so called level of 'robberies' is highly overestimated. Often people are actually referring to fights that are very close, and Ottke got the decision at home but to call it a robbery is well off the mark. And Ottke WAS a good fighter, he beat Glencoffe Johnson fair and square, boxed circles round him. The other ones he was a bit forunate with were Charles Brewer and Mads Larsen but they were real close.
1 really bad fight 3-4 very close fights that could have gone both ways ...but still the man at smw at the time he fought with Calzhage only second. (But surely Joe overtook him afterwards in terms of legacy)
He certainly was not the worst world champion ever but 'winning' the Reid fight was probably the worst thing for his so called 'legacy'. If Reid had blasted him out in the first few second of round 1, people would actually respect him a lot more today. But that farce has tainted all his other close wins. The only other Ottke fight ive watched entirely is against Mundine and he looked not that bad that night and stopped Mundine.
