Very good fighter tall with great jab and good skills and power .very underrated outboxed woodhall which is no mean feat as Richie was a very skillful boxer.Woodhall very sportingly said that he wasn't injured just beaten by a better fighter.Holmes lost to Hopkins but wasn't outclassed .not many in history could beat Hopkins when Holmes faced him.

He was very solid. I'd say he was a B plus fighter.

I first saw him in April '94 at the ABC Auditorium in Alexandria, Va. It was a clubshow in the basement of a strip mall. They converted a Bingo Hall for the card. He beat up Kelcie Banks in a 154 lb fight. He was way too strong for Kelcie who was moving up all the way from 135 lbs. I talked to Darryl Tyson. He was a nice guy. Eric Bottjer promoted. Bottjer went on to be a match maker for Cedric Kushner and then worked for Don King. Looking back, I should have schmoozed Bottjer, but I had no idea he would get so far in the Boxing game. I did meet him. He sold tickets for the card at his Frame Shop - running a Frame shop was his day job at the time. Bottjer seemed laid back. The other guy at the shop there asked me if I wanted to hand out flyers. I was busy. Looking back, I should have helped them out. Oh well, the road not taken.....
