Kellerman, Merchant's cheesy lines get old after a while.

Merchant is slow as ****, and rarely talks any sense.

Kellerman is better, and I don't care if that loses me friends. It's just true.

Pretty much anybody is better than Merchant these days. Oh, he's such a lovable old codger, a loose cannon that doesn't give a ****! *chortle!* Oh so irreverent, it's wonderful!!

:blabla Yeah. It's old. He's old. He sucks and needs to go away. Literally anybody is an improvement at this point, regardless of how ideal or "qualified" a candidate - even Kellerman.

Exactly. I've been following boxing for 35 years, and Kellerman is - hands down - the WORST commentator I've ever seen on a major network. Not surprising, since he basically did nothing to merit having the job.

What's the point of being an alleged 'history book' when you are unable to use that 'knowledge' to teach/share anything new, relevant, or interesting about boxing to the folks watching the broadcast?

I'm actually no big fan of Merchant, he's never been one of my favorite commentators. But not anybody is better than him. Kellerman is worse, much worse. And what makes it particularly terrible that they put this unqualified hack in one of the premier boxing commentator positions is that there are so MANY better candidates out there, such as Steve Farhood or Al Bernstein for example.

Well, I believe they're both happy enough (and adequately compensated for their time) at Showtime. I'm not entirely sure that either one would jump the ship if offered the spot.

Now, if either of them had their business relationship with Showtime severed at any point, for whatever reason - it would be no surprise to see them on the air with HBO the very next week.

I find it hard to believe that HBO with their warchest couldn't have raided Showtime, or at least held on with Merchant til they were available. These guys are both so much better than Kellerman - and Merchant - it's not funny.
