His defense is pretty good, but he has appalling defensive lapses. Remember when he got hit with 4 consecutive haymakers (all from the same hand...) against Miranda?
Pavlik's boxing style is predictable. Has anyone noticed Pavlik methodically leans in with his left foot and takes two steps before he throws a jab with a straight right or right hook?
When an orthodox fighter throws a lot of right hands and punches with great power and punches thru instead of at guys, he is always going to be vulnerable to the counter punch. Pavlik's defense is mostly his offense but he is better defensively than he is generally given credit for.

Indeed, you have it right here. When he focused defensively against Taylor after the KD's, he was quite a good defender, but the lapses are always going to be there. Imagine if Taylor was a big puncher.
His footwork needs work for sure and I think he relies too much on his power. What's he gonna do when you have a guy with similar athleticism to Taylor, but actually knows how to box? Either than that though, I agree with what you said. He also might have trouble with a short compact, relentless fighter with REAL power, and a chin made out of STEEL, but that guy's only chance to beat Pavlik would be in the first few rounds.
I watch Miranda Pavlik almost every other day. What a force. Kelly has a great future in the sport, I dont see anyone who can back him up at 160 or stand up to that straight right hand.
