All i'm saying is that how can a fighter be considered "lackluster" if he fought two of the top P4P fighters at the time to competitive fights? I understand that some people are pissed off that he got the nod against Hopkins but try to put those feelings aside. Was he not competitive against Hopkins along with Winky? How many guys have been competitive with Winky since 2000? Only 1, Hopkins. Give the guy some credit. He isn't crap. He isn't an ATG. But he's a very good fighter with a lot of talent.
JC Candelo gave Wright a much tougher than expected fight. Mosley did well in the rematch, even though still clearly beaten.
Joe Calzaghe is ranked #1 or #2 on most p4p lists, but he refuses to tangle with Pavlik AFTER he called Kelly out 10 plus times. Thank you -- that's all we need to know to COMPLETELY discredit your opinions.
The guy has 34 fights; 30 KO's and zero loss. How do you expect boxing fans to regard him . . a bum???? :deal Too many stupid threads today. :-( :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl
pavlik's record is very deceptive... compare his 34 opponents to some other big names at 34 fights. however, he is clearly not a bum, he is a very solid fighter who is probably more over rated at this point than he is under rated.
That's more acceptable. The guy is a solid fighter and is willing to fight anybody . . . reason why he is earning a lot of admirations.
Not really, hes at the end of his career and is obviously going for the big money fights! Yes RJJ is not the best fight for a legacy as he once was but hes still gonna earn him far more money than Pavlik! It doesnt discredit **** when Pavlik hasnt proven ****! Its blatent that JC is chasing the money, i know it, you know it, everybody knows it! Think back though even Hopkins said he respects him for holding the title that long and that its hard to stay motivated through the **** mandatorys! So when he comes to the probable last fight why not make as much cash as possible whilst fighting the last fight? Dont get me wrong im not discrediting Pavliks wins against Taylor but theyre not as great as theyre made out to be! Taylor had looked really lazy to me since the Winky fight like hes not properly fired up like a boxer should be, seemed his hunger wasnt there. Taylor done really well proving himself as the LMW champ of the world fighting Spinks, Ouma, Winky and what not but to be honest how many MWs are there right now that prove a threat to anyone een half decent? Of course like you say Winky hasnt been in a competitive fight since the year X but hes getting on and will have declined since then! Hes nowhere near the fighter he used to be when he was ducked in his prime!
It depends. If we consider him a B+ level come forward technical pressure fighter with heavy hands, also defensive problems and a distinct lack of speed we'd be rating him correctly. Unfortunately most seem to think hes the second coming of Monzon.
Really a stupid thread? He seems to be regarded as unbeatable like hes despathched of loads of top quality fighters already! Valero has 24 wins 24kos and zero losses how do you rate him? I rate him pretty **** and not saying Pavlik is as bad as him but for the level of comp that Pavliks faced he is overrated!
Have to agree on the resume'. Before the Zuniga fight he was very protected. From Zuniga on Top Rank moved him along in small increments, but not every fight was a step up. Never the less, he still has the best resume' of any active middleweight except Wink if you still count Wink as an active middleweight.
Pavlik's boxing career has just begun. He had to beat a bunch of bums to get a big name. Then he had to beat Miranda to get a fight with JT. He wasnt well known enough to fight big fights early in his career. So for what he has had put in front of him, 2 wins over JT one being a brutal KO, and Another brutal KO over Miranda shows alot. You Will see Big fights coming up in the next 2 years. So until someone Knocks Pavlik out, he would never be overated! I can see him getting beat on points, but a KO at 26 yrs old? Not gonna happen
Taylor should have lost a handful of fights: Hopkins, Wright, and Spinks. Sure he was the first to KO Taylor, but he was also the first to have above featherfisted power except Hopkins.
