I have been reading on here thread after thread saying Pavlik will be number 1 p4p That pavlik will smash Joe Calzaghe, will make old man hopkins retire once and for all etc etc etc That Joe Calzaghe took the easy option in Bernard and avoided the harder fight in Pavlik, after Joe C beat bernard all people would say on here is "ahh but Joe C beat a fighter who is finished over the hill old man just to pad out his cv :yep I wonder just how much Pavlik wishes he had the scalp of that same 43 year old over the hill old man on his cv. :deal Now the excuses are coming out for pavlik in their droves, pavlik fought a better bernard than j.c did being the most common excuse. Well I wonder if people have heared of styles making fights, Joe Calzaghe had the style to beat Hopkins he could compete physically and also had the big fight experience to handle all the pressures of just what it means to be in such a huge fight. Why didnt the Pavlik supporters take these factors in mind when they prematurely judged Pavlik was going to beat all before him. The fact is Pavlik was and always will be one dimensional, this was the reason Bernard took the fight he knew he could beat someone coming straight at him and offering nothing more. Bernard didnt open up against Calzaghe because he knew about calzaghes hand speed and angles of attack, bernard is a very smart fighter and knew he had to keep the calzaghe fight ugly. Against Pavlik you could see the total contempt he had for Pavlik`s skills, he knew Pavlik didnt have anything to beat him with. Where are the Pavlik fans now ????? It seems Joe C took a much harder fight when he fought bernard, I knew he had taken the harder fight and I had respect for the champion bernard is, its about time some Pavlik fans showed that same respect for true champions like Joe C
Well, I'm a fan of Pav, but I've said repeatedly he'd lose via UD to Joe, like Kessler did. Both put out a HUGE punch output, but Joe is faster. Unless Kelly caught him good early, it would another Joe C showcase.
It seems im the only Calzaghe fan who is a lil gutted Pavlik lost. I would have loved it if Calzaghe got Kelly Pavlik as a scalp before retiring. Because if Kelly blitzed Hop and Calzaghe beat RJJ, the money would have been too much for him to refuse.
have to agree there, its the only possible reason i could be sad to see pavlik lose, i would have loved calzaghe to have given him the lacy traetment
I just cant fathom how some people say Pavlic would beat Calzaghe ! Pavlick would get beat worse against Calzaghe IMO ! And his fight last night against Hopkins compounded it for us! Pavlic just dont fight well against crafty counter punchers,infact he didnt have a clue did he! ? How could anybody possibly pic him against Calzaghe whos younger/fresher and moves even better then hopkins is beyond me!?
Pavlik is far from a joke. He is a world level fighter who has a fantastic attitude to the sport and gives great entertainment in pretty much every fight. He ducks nobody and seems like a good guy. He has a good jab, great stamina and very good power. He will win a world title again. However, he has been vastly overrated on here, and is resume bar Taylor and Miranda is very very weak. He has poor footwork and would lose to Kessler, Froch, Bute etc. Hopefully the ridiculous fan boys will pipe down a little now, as they had him destroying everyone from 160 up to light heavy and it was ludicrous. He has been massively hyped and his clear flaws ignored, and Calzaghe is foolish not to have taken the fight and been the one to gain the kudos for thrashing him. But that does not make him a joke, and it does not mean he suddenly loses the respect he should be given for taking back to back tough fights from Miranda to Taylor and then an immediate Taylor rematch and emerging victorious in all. An Abraham - Pavlik fight would be great and is a real 50/50 as Abraham is also overrated by many.
