Quote from a news paper article "American coach: Kessler has big balls" from today. (Source www.bt.dk)

"...Aging boxing wizard Jimmy Montoya has been working on transforming Kessler's characteristic counter boxing style into something more agressive with an increased use of body punches...."

For the interested ESB posters: Does this change of style, or addition to Kesslers arsenal, meet the criticism that came Kesslers way after the Calzaghe defeat?

I don't think they should look to make wholesale changes to his style, it has for the most part been very successful. We have to remember he schooled B level fighters before facing Calzaghe, barely dropping a round. His style is already a very sound foundation.

It is however a good idea to vary things a bit. A few body punches wouldn't go a miss, I've seen him use them well in sparring but never in a fight. He should use his left-hook more, he has a good one when he bothers. And of course the upper cut is fantastic, we need to see more of those he pinged Calzaghe with

I don't think he needs to go out there trying to be more aggressive. We have to accept he hasn't got great lateral movement, so he's better keeping at range behind his piston jab. If he is too aggressive he might become easy to tag. Just varying the punches is enough.

Oh yeah. Because Kessler has been down so many times right? And Pavlik being such a one punch KO artist at 160, displayed by his ability to hit Taylor and Miranda 67 times before knocking them out, one can only come to the conclusion he stops Kessler (at 168 no less) in 4 rounds :nut

Where do we get these newbs.

Kessler would kill Pavlik, he is cool and calm under pressure and pin point precise with he's counter boxing.

Pavlik does not have one-punch ko power, but is an accumulation puncher. I doubt Kessler would enjoy absorbing an accumulation of punches from Pavlik. He certainly didn't seem to enjoy the numerous soft punches JC landed on him. JC actually had him backing up half the fight and admitted that a body punch from JC hurt him!! Sorry TFFP, but Pavlik's pressure would bother Kessler tremendously. He would keep coming forward and Pavlik does land great body shots, ask Taylor and Lockett. KO 4 is not realistic, but tko 9/10 is. To say that Kessler has greater power than Pavlik makes no sense. In 39 wins, 10 opponents went the distance, B/c fighters nonetheless. He unloaded on Andrade and couldn't even stun him. Yusef Mack floored Andrade with a single left hook. Is Mack (24 wins, 14 kos) a bigger puncher than Kessler? Pavlik is a very large middleweight and putting on 8 pounds is not going to diminish his power or pressure fighting.
