Hello people, before i make this post i must emphasise i am not a Calzaghe Hater and this thread in no way relates to him. Just wondering why Mikkel Kessler is so highly regarded by members in this forum. I see a very good technical fighter but not one that is great or has great skills. Has an average resume and apparently dodged Edison Miranda.........comments?

Kessler is a great fighter, I tip him to clean up the Super Middleweight decision.

I'd like to see how he goes against a technical fighter like Hopkins or Dawson..but so far he has done nothing but impress me.

He's a good fighter, how good remains to be seen though. Great jab and cross. He would eat Miranda alive, who is just a journeyman with great power.

he's good but hasnt shown much of a boxing IQ or ability to adapt which makes a good fighter great

I'm a big Kessler fan but his weakness is that he is a little too robotic. Not responsive enough. Lacks dynamism? sorry i don't know the word to express the thought. Its not only being able to adapt your gameplan during the fight, but also being able to take what your opponent gives you, capitalizing on his weaknesses in a split second rather than always relying on your own strengths, that is what Kessler lacks.

That is also what Wlad lacks, on a much larger scale

Kessler is a great fighter, if he fights on the inside he has a chance against anyone

    hu??
he has won almost every single round of his 41 bouts and only lost to atg
joe calzaghe, and yes he wasnt able to adapt to his change of tactics, but no one really have been able to do that! so to take that as a proof of mikkel not having high boxing IQ is a bit over the target m8.
he has been around the world to meet his challengers and has destroyd them all with only one exeption.
in my opinion he is and will be king of smw for a long time! just ask joe c:yep

the only time he's fought an a class fightr with the ability to adapt he looked like a deer in the headlights his competition level has been average at best

Kessler does what he does, and does it well. The criticism people have -- too 'up-and-down', not enough head movement, too little adaptability -- is valid. But as is he's still a mountain to climb for anyone, and he'd be a favorite in my mind over someone like Bernard Hopkins.

It's terribly hard to find a suitable opponent at 168 for him. He's just a cut above the division imo.

He put in a good show against Joe I think, I agree he hasnt shown much versatility, but he can learn from the loss. He's basically steam rolled all his other opponents, I guess its hard to change what your doing when it worked so well in the past.
