While i agree it would have been that much more better maybe to keep Teddy around to say that anyone could have trained Mike is equally as ridiculous as that other comment because if that is the case Mike would have kept on being the skillful Mike and winning with those "Bozo's" he opted to put in his corner after Rooney. As we all know Mike only lasted 2 fights before losing and was never the same fighter again.He went from being a skillful puncher to just a puncher and became easy pickings for anyone with some talent who was not afraid of him.
:blood Trolling right? Rooney as a trainer taught the D'Amato style as perfectly as it could be taught, with Cus no longer around. Kevin constantly reminded Mike to use elusive headmovement (which made him extremely difficult to tag cleanly, & set-up many counterpunching opportunities) & brutal bodyshots to break down him foes, fed him number system codes for which crisp combinations to use between each round, & designed him a superb strategy for victory against every named opponent. Also, he ensured Mike was supremely conditioned physically, mentally & technically for every single fight & underestimated noone.
atlas did a lot of the grunt work when tyson was young, driving him every week down to nyc for am fights. then as tyson got older he was with rooney more. back then rooney was a drinker but not a full blown alcoholic like he is today.
Rooney may not be that good of a trainer, but yeah I agree with an earlier post that he know's Tyosn from head to toe and has what it takes to maintain him in top condition. Rooney was molding Tyson the same D'Amato way.
I don't know how great a trainer Rooney was or was not, but he's 100% correct. Tyson became a f*cking meathead after he booted Rooney: no head movement, no defense, no intelligence.
yes sure crackhead he was a good trainer for MIKE and had a good understanding of him Had mike stayed with rooney he would have done a lot better and not lost to Hollyfield and douglas
Not so true. He drove and woked corner maybe twice, for fight cards of Nelson Cuevas who ran amateur bouts in Bronx, but only when Rooney or someone else could not make trip. could not make it. It was not every week though. Big mistake came then they let Atlas accompany Tyson to Colorado, and Teddy got Tyson thinking everyone was out to get him and that Cus was calin ghim names. In that video that pops up sometimes, befoe Junior Olympic bout, where a young Tyson starts crying and Teddy, knowing cameras are on, goes into his good guy act, we don't see the **** Teddy stuffed into Tyson's head leading up to that.
Ironic that they ****ed him over beyond reason. That's because race means jack**** where loyalty is concerned. You can be ****ed over, by anybody.
Rooney was bad for Tyson. And Atlas was the fundamental coach behind Tyson. ****, now I've read it all. Are there winged unicorns as well?
