Because everybody was saying its about time he stepped it up a level and had someone to test his defence which is the main thing he had been working on.

stepping up is one thing John Murray, Thaxton or Yuri Romanov all would have been significant steps up and fighters that at least the Khan camp new a little about.

Yup he can retire right now and have a fleet of corner shops. Aptly named "Khans". :D

CLAPPING TO GET KHAN'S ATTENTION????????? HAHAHAHAHAHA

Dude, seriously, you're mental. Anyway, back in the real world....

I thought it was a bit strange. The trainer should have known that Khan was going to be in trouble against a big puncher so he chooses a big puncher. Then he starts clapping when his fighter gets knocked down? Weird.

It was two hand claps, not a rapturous round of applause.

Because that's what people do to get attention, especially in the heat of a moment.

**** me, watch a football match or something, coaches struggle with a feeling of not being able to influence directly what is happening and instead direct their energies by shouting and often clapping their hands.

    No great mystery.

Khan got to showcase his real skill in this fight -- dancing. He's been planning this for years, ever since he turned pro. Prescott was paid to help him dance reflexively, which is, of course, dancing at its purest and most artful form. No cold thought to hinder the flow of emotion.
