Khan fan speaking here...why he seems to not want to take the Brook fight I can only see as fear and a gamble on his future career if he was to lose. Fighters usually jump at the chance for a world title fight. He has one on the table. fighters want big money fights...he has one on the table. There is no other opponent that Khan can take now that will bring a belt and that kind of money. In the UK that fight is HUGE. It'd probably fill Wembley stadium...mega money and a recognised world title. Why not take that its a golden opportunity! Not only that it will give him some clout for future fights and bigger money down the line should he win. They must see the risk is greater than the already HUGE reward. I call Khan of whom I'm a fan of a chicken boy ducker. :deal
Hasn't he just said he'll fight Brook at the end of the year... It seems Amir has already got someone lined up for the summer - I'm just hoping it's not Algieri!!
A lesser fight lined up...lesser name for no title and lesser money ? Why ? I thought he only wanted bigger names and bigger money ?
I like Amir Khan but the thing that annoys me most about him is his inactivity ! Fight Brook, win the title, then fight twice a year and cherry pick your opponents. He seems to rate himself a lot higher than pretty much everyone else, needs to step back and realize he needs to force himself into the Mayweather/Pacquiao sweepstake and the best way to do that is by beating Brook
If Khan/Brook is the UK's Floyd/Manny, then it seems we are somewhere around 2011 in getting it made.
The difference is, Khan can't guarantee to stay active and coherent for 4 more years. It's pretty obvious that his entire team are trying their best to shamelessly pick opponents that fully meet their requirements in order to score a free payday I sincerely hope they never. Sure Pacquiao lost once(twice if you want to count the Bradley malarkey) in that process but Khan, if he decides to fight top competition as Pacquiao did, won't last a year.
that's kind of my thinking too, if he fights Bradley or cotto(unlikely) then fine. But algeiri and broner won't do. The annoying thing is I think the khan who schooled DA will easily beat brook. I can see khan beating brook in 2 years when he doesn't have a belt quite easily, not to dissimilar to him ducking DA when he had a belt only to beat him 12 months later in a far less meaningful fight
Agree with this completely... It becomes an issue when Khan talks as much as he does. If he didn't make such bold claims and chipper about others as much as he did, I'd be fine with his sluggish route back to a title fight. The Alexander fight should have happened 12 months earlier with Khan solely to blame for that not happening but that was a good victory over a top 10'er.
I think people talk more than Khan talks. It's funny because he does an interview that the networks crave and all of a sudden he's piping up and aiming too high or ducking lesser opponents when he actually wants to fight the best in the division.
Khan is not known for ducking. Looks like he is maturing, he does not want to rush the fight. People say he fights guys that can't punch, he has fought Prescott, Maidana, Judah, Garcia all guys with high KO ratio and many others with a decent KO record. Now, besides Porter has Brook fought anyone worth mentioning at the world level? Brook is a virtual unknown outside of UK. Khan said he wants fight Brook in a years time but wants Brook to make a name for himself in US so that the fight in one years time is big both in US and UK. Seems reasonable to me.
Everytime I come accross any boxing web-site, I see him making the same interviews on how he deserves to fight Mayweather, or AT LEAST atsch Pacquiao. Or other **** like he's elite boxer and others need to earn their shot with him, especially Brook who already IS a champion and, as contrary to Khan, HAS A BELT. Khan is constantly embarassing himself. Do you remember him giving deadlines to Floyd Mayweather and saying that Mayweather escaped some nightclub just to avoid facing Amir Khan? This guy is totaly delusional, and that's why he is being discussed.
Marquez III fight was a bogus decision too, I had it for Marquez but the fight was still close and could go either way. I had friends, who were neutral to both fighters, scoring it a draw, for Pacquiao or for Marquez. I wouldn't compare it at all to the Bradley fight which was totally one-sided. Regarding Khan, I'm not really sure if you followed him closely from the very start(back at the Olympics) but he has been a clown from the very beginning. I remember after his second professional fight he was calling out Mayweather for a 4 rounder he guaranteed he would win. The clown has always been shameless and will remain, it's his only way of surviving the wrath of reality when it comes to his obvious limitations and shameless approach at picking opponents that fully meet his stylistic requirements to further deceive his disturbingly idiotic and clueless fan base. As far as the Alexander fight is concerned, even if it happened 12 months ago, Khan would've won. Khan will always shine over opponents that lack the power to overwhelm and smother him. They picked Alexander at a perfect time though, he was coming off a loss to Porter and a win of Karass who was brutalized by Thurman. That fight, while looking good on paper, was pointless and a stylistic joke of a fight designed to make Khan look good.
Here are the facts: Brook is an unknown outside the UK. Brook has 1 decent win on his resume. The fight will be much bigger if Brook has 1 or 2 more wins in US. Even though Brook is the champion, he is calling out a former lightweight that does not have a belt and supposedly can't take a punch. Yet if Khan was doing that people would be up in arms about it. Even though Brook just defended his title, there are many more threads about Khan not just here but else where too.
I use to like Khan due to he was so active, but now he is talking BS. Specially if he decides to fight Algieri, i want to see Khan vs Thurman. If he beats Thurman, that would shut a lot of critics up.
Here are the bigger facts..... #1 Brook has a recognised World Title...he is a WORLD CHAMPION. Khan isn't...he's a top 10 contender for a world title. One who is a speedy skilled boxer but has been KO'd a few times. And whilst he beat Maidana was lucky to not have been stopped in that fight. Who'd have questioned it had the ref waved that one off? He escaped another TKO loss there by the skin of his teeth. #2 Brook vs Khan in the UK right now is a PPV stadium filler with a belt on the line - forget the US this is HUGE NOW in the UK. #3 Khan if he fights anyone else will take less money and no title. Its going to be funny to see who he announces his next fight is going to be with in the next few weeks. Shameless duck IMO. :deal
