The pros:

Khan seemed more patient, was fighting in bursts
Nice jab, was doubling it up, tripling it up
There was an exchange early on in the fight when Khan was backed up against the ropes. Khan was rolling under the shots and landing good shots. Got the better of Molina there. On behind the ropes we saw Virgil getting Khan to roll under the shots when he's up close. Looks like he learned something.
He seemed to think a bit more about what he was doing
This is only his first camp with Hunter and it will take time


Reasons to not get too excited.

Molina has no power and is smaller than Khan
Khan still lunged in at times
When he got clipped he responded in anger, although he did seem to realise mid flurry that he needs to stop that ****. It's a habit that may never die completely.
His punches still seem too *****-fied. Not expecting him to be a KO artist but would like to see him load up more often and mix in some harder shots with those faster ones.
He's still a PR disaster.

 

So Khan beat a bum, so what?

Mollina was a feather-fisted nobody yet the Khantards are lapping it up again. He'll beat a few more hand-selected chumps with weak punches but when he fights someone with a bit of power he'll get exposed again.

He's a media darling, nothing more yet the lemmings who need to be told whose good or not and who lack the intellectual capacity to make up their own mind about such matters eat up the hype.

 

Same old Amir IMO.

Not everyone sees things in such a black and white, simplistic way as you. Of course, he can still compete at World level even if he hasn't vastly improved but I'm guessing you consider everyone who isn't p4p no.1 a failure.

 

No but I think you should, you're posts have been going down hill for a while now and they were nothing to write home about in the first place.

 

He still looks wide open to hooks when he throws the fast combos.

 

Hickey is a ******ed poster that has moments of normality as supposed to a decent poster having an off day.

 

Some good points.. but time will tell if Amir can further improve.. I think a rematch with Peterson will be good.. Peterson doesn't have aamzing power but he is a step up from MOlina for sure

 

Khan boxed well.
Someone post a fight from say 8 or 9 fights ago and post last nights fight, i honestly don't know how to do it .
I want someone to point out how he has changed and is different, all i saw was the same khan.

Khan did look good but he should have finished Molina a lot earlier than he did. Molina caught Khan a few times but due to his lack of size and tiny t rex arms he had no power behind them. I can see the Garcia fight ending the same way again unless he can keep his guard up way more. If he does keep his guard up and fights with clever speed combinations he beats anyone.

Hopefully he is more active next year and gets back in the ring late Feb /March.

 

The other question you have to consider is are people judging Khan's style and strategy too harshly because he has a poor chin? He got clipped a few times last night, and people are saying if that was Garcia he would've been knocked out again. Whereas if his chin wasn't letting him down how many would be criticising his defence or his style? A fighter like Brandon Rios can get away with blocking punches with his face because of a great chin. Nobody says he's making mistakes, because whatever mistakes he makes are not costing him the fight. A fighter with a poor chin? Well the problem is how does Khan not take risks without turning into a boring, negative fighter? If he gets clipped people will always wonder "what if it was a harder puncher he was facing? That shot may have knocked him out". No matter what his style, he will always get clipped a few times unless he turns very negative.

 

People also don't see what happens when you use your face to block punches. Can't be good long term. Long term its devestating. Just imagine how the neurons in your head get stretch and the nerve impulses fire off in the wrong directions when you're older and it matters the most.

The damage to McClellan wasn't from Nigel BEnn's fight, but as they found out afterwards from a bloodclot before the fight that probably started due to his excessive sparring.

 

I just hope Rios doesn't have to pay the price of his long term health, but I don't see how he can have a long career fighting the way he does. Very fun to watch, but it's ****in' crazy. When it comes to gym wars damaging fighters James Toney and Meldrick Taylor also come to mind.

 

I didn't see this great improvement the commentators were talking about.

He looked impressive against a short reached, plodding, slow opponent that was made to order and had no power whatsoever. He would have done the same thing with Roach or probably any other trainer he's had in the past against that opponent so I don't really think you can read into improvements anyway as there is no baseline to gauge him against when the opponent is Carlos Molina.

However, what this opponent did show us in the few times he managed to plod into a range sufficient to let his T-Rex arms go...if you punch with Khan he's still very easy to catch. If you can punch with Khan and have greater power and chin than him, than you're going to negate the speed difference and destroy him again. If we're going to put stock into this performance as a whole, as well as acknowledging the good/exciting parts of the performance, you must equally pay attention to the worrying parts where Molina punched with him and landed easy left-hooks, and how Khan never put a dent in him despite hitting him with everything, and only really stopped him due to a cut so how is he going to hurt Danny Garcia as he claims?

Saw nothing to write home about as far as improvements really, but it was a good performance.
