    Eh? :huh
Didn't Watson knock him down and hurt him badly but still ended up losing on points?

craig watson didnt knock him out, he put khan down in the second round only for Amir to win on points. ;)

    Yeah.
IIRC it was after the olympics, khan stayed away from him the rest of the fight, won on points and withdrew from the tournament before the next fight, allegedly injured or some ****. They didn't want to risk him getting beat before going pro... the only other amateur fight he had was kindelan.
Can someone confirm this or was it before the olympics and my mind playing tricks on me?

It was definetely before the olympics, it was in the abas i think, 100% before the olympics though.

Yeah you are right, it was after the Olympics, around November 2004 time.

Didn't he pull out of the tournament due to ticketing issues, something like he couldn't get enough tickets for his family and friends.

If the Watson fight was in the ABA's, then Khan withdrew due to some dispute over tickets or something.

just to clarfiy Khan beat watson 20-9 in the ABA's despite the knockdown and then went on to fight Steve Willaims who he stopped in 3 prior to his last am fight v the great kindelen. He was dropped a few times but never stopped in the unpaid ranks as far as im concerned. Kindelen aside, khan never really beat the quality of fighters in the ams that Gavin did in ONE TOURNAMENT- tischenko (russian star) amanov and Valentino are all top level fighters, the itailian and russian world class.

I think its a great match-up, khan has the edge on speed and power whilst Gavin has the better boxing brain and technique. both can lean in at times and head clashes may happen so I can see why Frankie getting cut is an issue (rarely cut by shots more his own over-eagerness) Id say Gavin on a close but unanimous points decision, when a
Amir comes forward to land his quick fire combos this'd play into Frankie's counter punching style. Down the lineif both guys are looking to move up the weights we could see this at 147lbs.

I really think as the level of competition steps up we'll see vast improvements in Frankie Gavin, as fighters become more 'live' and come to beat him this will only play into his hands

Khan beats Gavin, the difference in power in speed is too much. If Gavin can develop some proper power at 140 like Khan has, then we have a good fight on our hands
