Why was such a big deal made out of the PPVs that sky had sold? Who buys a fight along time in advance of it happening, most people buy on the day of the fight.

They outbid them for various premiership football rights(sadly leading to their downfall), infact they ended sky channel 450 cos of that, and Sky's massive promotional compagin, including James NEsbitt and Rachel Stevens, on premiership football, sky's holy grail , and youre telling me they couldnt outbid Sky on boxing?
A major reason Setanta did so well at the time was due to the fact it was the sports channel of choice for university students. Skys package to get sport was and still is very expensive so most uni students got virgin instead cos it was way cheaper. Also, especially in the area that I lived, virgin phonelines were already instaled into most of houses and nobody wanted to pay the extra charge to get a different phoneline in. The only time sky was watched was mostly in the pubs.
Mugen and others...correct...SKY did lose out in the pocket area to Setanta...don't believe all the hype about SKY being the one and only! You mean setanta the tv network which threw money at things they never actually had. All setanta did was pay way over the odds for a variety of things in some desperate hope they could take on sky. It was an absurd business plan where they seemed to think that buy just spending money or should I put it promising money which they never had would drive up subscriptions. Sky must of looked at what they were doing and wondered 'what the hell are they doing' and how can they afford this? Surprise surprise they couldnt!! Setanta never once broke even or hit subscription targets. If the definition of beating Sky is going out of business then yes Setanta did a great job!! Just three of the dumb moves from setanta. 1. Sign a deal with Frank Warren only then to realise Amir Khan was not part of the deal. 2. Pay Ricky Hatton god knows how much for one fight only then to see Sky make an absolute fortune when next time out Hatton fights PBF. 3. Instead of working with Sky they tried to take them on. They tried to go totally independent. ESPN have not done this. ESPN work in conjuction with sky given sky a percentage of the subscription revenue. ESPN get ad space on sky sports, and sky even plug games on ESPN. No. EU rules said football couldnt be monopolised on one network so sky had to give up some packages. Setanta then got left with the rubbish games which nobody cared about. Setanta then went on to pay an absurd amount for FA CUp football and England games which Sky didnt need as Prem football and CL is what matters. Sky are the only legitmate show in town unless ESPN get involved. ESPN can afford to run at a loss as they are backed by disney but they aint interested in boxing.

It will be more than 50,000...it could be closer to the figure that SKY promised and that would be interesting...company comes in at five days notice to take on the Goliath of sport and comes close to the proposed figure...surely that couldn't happen...SKY have so many men in fat ties, so many years of experience, the infrastructure...shirley not!
