The Bolton boxer, who is now a global superstar following his first fight in America earlier this month, took time to talk to the youngsters and parents in the children’s ward yesterday. Amir spent more than an hour chatting to youngsters, doctors, nurses and staff, signing autographs and posing for pictures. He also took his world championship belt along for children to see up close. Amir said: “It’s a good thing, being here. I was treated here in 1987 when I was only about six months old. “I had a chest infection and I was in intensive care.” He added: “It’s good to come back and put a smile on the kids’ faces. The days can get a bit boring here for youngsters. “Even though you’re a global star, you can’t forget your roots. My feet are still on the ground.” Amir spoke to fiveyear- old Cameron Monaghan, from Radcliffe, who is recovering from a hip operation.
