    Props to Kovalev for fighting a smart fight and not letting the Ole Man suck him into the typical *ugly* foul fest that is a Bernard Hopkins fight.

    Yep, I picked Hopkins and I was wrong. Kovalev fought a smart fight and was able to take Hopkins out of his comfort zone.

    That said, after last night, Kovalev's accomplishments in the ring are greater than those of the Triple Duck. Hence;

    Kovalev > Triple Duck

    I really like both guys and I ain't gonna comment on the value of the thread, but there is a kinda irony in the situation.

    GGGs had the full backing of HBO ever since his US debut and they've been making every effort to build him into a star, but yet the top fights are still eluding him.

    Kovalev OTOH was very much a guy who came up from nothing, fighting for literally nothing on the US grass roots circuit and finally catching a break with Duva, but still not getting much attention until he lucked out getting Campillo (though Gabriel wouldn't have even bothered with Kovalev if he hadn't been robbed out of the belt v's Cloud) and Cleverly who saw him as a stepping stone but wildly underestimated him.

    Then of course.. just when it looked like he's run into a kinda dead end, Stevenson / Haymon try and get a bit greedy and outplay the player BHops and suddenly the Hopkins fight falls into his lap...

    He just carried on knocking guys out and showed a willingness to fight anyone even for short money and now the guy's reached the top of his division and has a marquee win to his name.

    I ain't trying to make any point or anything, except perhaps that it's a funny old world. For all the planning and money in the world, sometimes stuff just works out in ways you wouldn't expect. For all the money and effort put into building GGG as a star, Kovalevs kinda eclipsed him almost by accident.

    You just have to wonder how many guys there are like Kovalev, but who just didn't catch that lucky break - hell Sergei himself nearly chucked it all in after the Simakov tragedy and a few years of seeming like he'd never get anywhere in the sport.

    Just a few days ago, you were saying that Kovalev had no skill or technique. Bet you feel foolish now.

    One c.o.c.kroach just crawled out of their hole. Simply for attention whoring purposes, nothing more.

    Kovalev is much more proven than GGG but not necessarily better than GGG.

    Kovalev's defense leaves something to be desired and his balance is **** but he fought a good fight and beat a legend more impressively than anyone since Jones. That can't be taken away from him...
