im shocked at the lack of Scottish press for tonight's world title fight in Paisley, both the main tabloids haven't a word printed about the fight, now I may be biased but how are we supposed to promote our sport if the press don't get behind us, we have a fantastic boxer in Billy Joe Saunders boxing tonight I can't wait to watch his skills, what's folks thoughts?
I would agree with what you are saying Billy if it was a competitive fight. This is simply another mismatch, the press know it and the public know it along with the Catterall and Butler fights. Being hidden away on Boxnation also significantly reduces the profile of the card. The main event tonight is the only competitive fight and it is Denis Lebedev on Sky.
Mismatch. Saunders farted about with ggg and other opponents and this is the fight they brought us. What do you expect? Regardless of location wherever this was held it wouldn't attract much interest. Boxnation have given us some real rubbish this year just look at Flanagans defences, plenty of top lightweights and unifications out there so no excuse I'm afraid
VIP tickets £100 with drink and buffet. Still available on ticket master. I'm weighing up going last minute. Could ask Tyson what he's up to as well.
Why would the Scottish press care about BJS fighting in a mismatch? BJS at the best of times gets limited press let alone fighting a poor fighter. The public don't care, the media don't care. Maybe BJS should fight someone with a pulse.
i will tell you why coz the guys a brilliant boxer better than anything we have in Scotland and we have the chance to go and watch him, seriously your thought process is dire my friend
You only have Warren to blame for that, he's the promoter. I cannot imagine how big BJS would be if he was with Matchroom fighting on Sky.
Billy-Joe is class, I've seen him box live against Ryder when he was coming through at British level and seen him against Eubank.... but since winning the world title, we haven't seen anything from him. Whether that's his own fault or because of injuries and being messed around, the public still won't buy into mismatches. I get that this is a fight that gets him back under the lights after a year out to dust the cob webs off, but most won't and as world champ he'll be expected to be involved in big fights.... then there will be interest.
As much as it is a mismatch he actually in fairness needs this fight to get rid of some ring rust and to get going again. Although BJS does really pee me off. Especially when he sometimes says "Tbh I would rather just fight once a year". In fact I'm actually surprised the WBO didnt strip him. That said, Frank his cosy with the WBO so no surprise. But am sick of fighters holding belts hostage.
Anyone know what time the Saunders fight is on, be around 9 maybe? Paisley Ice rink, no longer there, is where Sugar Ray lost to Mick Leahy and where Liston gave an exhibition in '63 on a Walter McGowan title night.
The Scottish public deserve better than what was an absolutely rotten card tonight mate. Can see why the press have better things to report on.
