Wouldn't surprise me none, with Ali saying that of Clark. Clark may not have had much in skill, but you might as well have called him 'the poor white man's version of Earnie Shavers', he had a hell of a punch for a man no bigger than 175 pounds. He was a throw back, I believe, to the old-timers who trained to specifically knock someone out with certain punches at certain times.

Do you know if there's any film of him?

I doubt any exists today. The only thing I ever found of Clark was a single photograph of Ali standing over Clark.

The Ali fight isn't filmed either?

I would think it was, considering Ali even from the start was filmed everywhere. Hell, even his "sparring session" with Ingemar Johansson was filmed, and that was just a round or two. Maybe the Clark fight exists somewhere, but no one in all my years as a boxing fan, has ever forked it out. Like Clark, the fight its self, has become a mystery, enigma, all its own.

Wish I could have helped out more. If any man on the planet had the fight, it would have been Bill Cayton, imo.

Would have been? Was his collection the one that ended up in the hands of ESPN?

I believe so. I also heard Cayton's library of films ended up being in a University, an entire wing devoted to Cayton. But I'm not sure.

    Thanks for reminding me!

Yes, his bout with Clay/Ali was filmed and I just watched it. The film is only 2 minutes long and it's not that clear, BUT it does show that Clark pressed the action and it also shows the 2 knockdowns on Clark.

They might've known he was a fraud though. Perhaps they knew that some (or many) of his fights were fixed? Once he was exposed by Soni, they basically cashed out by feeding him to the wolves.

I dont know if Clark was a fraud or not. But I have no reason to believe he was, not knowingly anyways. Whats there to be a fraud about when the majority of your opponents were just local tough guys? Clark, in a more modern sense, was like John Poore, who transisted from Toughman contests into pro boxing. Hard hitting, yes, too much for average men, yes, but against truly skilled boxers? No.

Ture. I would pick Butterbean to defeat Clark.
