I guess you are not joking in this post...I saw both Bummy Davis ,at about 140 pounds and the 160 pound Lamotta,at MSG. In a street fight Jake would squash the tough much smaller Bummy Davis...
RESULT _ Lamotta by body slam !

No, I did not see Bummy Davis against Fritzie Zivic, But I saw Al Davis , who was a 10-1 underdog flatten Bob Montgomery in ONE round Feb, 1944...Left hooks one after another..My father and I went crazy with excitement...A few weeks later in MSG, Bummy Davis faced the great Beau Jack..In the first round Davis nailed Jack with his lethal left hook, which momentarily shook up Beau Jack, but Beau recovered and gave Davis a one sided beating for 10 rounds...Davis was a tough SOB, with the BEST left hook I have ever seen...
Hope I answered your questions JD...

Dream match-up for LaMotta who would take Davis's best and rough up the smaller man.

hey bert no different than lamotta vs srr or zivic so whats the big deal about the weight difference. both the smaller zivic and srr beat lamotta.

Because Bummy Davis [as much as I love him] is no Fritzie Zivic [as proven], and 15-20 lbs heavier Jake Lamotta....
Please do not put SRR into the equation,it's too much of a stretch....
P.S. i saw Al Davis and his wife in a candy store shortly before his death...

Lamotta too big and strong but Davis was a tough Brownsville/East NY guy, a lot of tough Russian Jews came out of there. Bummy (Vroomy in yiddish short for Abraham) had one hell of a left hook but Fritzie Z. got his anger up. Fritzie was no joke look at some of the names on his record and who he fought competitively. Bummy had a punchers chance with anyone at his weight, he Ko'd "Schoolboy" Bernie Friedkin who drew with 3 world champs and KO'd Bob Montgomery in 1. Bummy had a natural great left hook but Lamotta a different story, Bummys hook would be useless against that IRON chin.

I agree with you about Lamotta, who was 15 pounds heavier than Davis... Too, too big and rugged for Bummy to fight..
We should try to compare fighters of similiar weights for a serious discussion...It's only fair I think...b.b.

sometimes me thinks the matchups here are pathetic at best, moronic , moronic, moronic. Why not Bobby czyz vs. Joe Louis, Hurricane Crter vs Ali, Zamora vs. Duran. Those would be FUN!

Carter beat Elis, Ellis beat Quarry, Quarry beat Shavers, Shavers beat Norton, Norton beat Ali so..... Seriously the only way Carter wins if he can bring his shotgun.

Since Zivic beat laMotta, doesn't that suggest that Davis has chance (say 20%).

I love LaMotta, but if you don't knock people out and can be hit, you can lose.

I loved Bummy Davis's left hook, but if a Bob Satterfield was kod by Lamotta, what chance would the 145 lb Davis have against the concrete chin Lamotta ? Answer=Zilch...
