This version vs. Mayweather in a street fight is a live dog. Merchant via unhinged shove causing Mayweather to twist his ankle and hit head on pavement.

I earnestly hope that Larry can make a recovery and enjoy a few more years of his retirement.

But I never regarded Merchant's commentary during the last 15 years of his career as anything more than "schtick" fueled by his persona.

I didn't love Bernard Hopkins during the last half of his career, but when he rebutted Larry by telling him "Let me tell you something Larry, you get paid everyday on TV for not doing much." - he spoke the truth.

But such objections are meaningless in the grand scheme of things, and I hope Larry recovers.

He was too curmudgeonly for me, but I always appreciated that he respected old school journalism where you did your job without concern for the commercial aspects of it.

Love Larry. Those old school guys are/were a different class. Fantastic turn of phrase and a walking quote machine and he isn't a company man who was ever afraid to speak truth to power.

And I love the fact he was a bit of a curmudgeon and was sometimes disrespectful towards fighters too. I found it amusing lol

And yes, a 50 year younger Larry beats the living crap out of Floyd. 'Men' of Floyd's times fought women, men of Larry's fought world wars.

    Get well soon, Larry

Loved Larry. He brought a scrappy tone to the commentary that no others could emulate

One of my all-time favorites, love the guy, his dry wit and his perpetually cantankerous temperament. He like Lederman and Steward, exudes genuine old school vibes, that's impossible to replicate and that will be sorely missed when he's gone. I wish him nothing but the best and I hope that he makes a full recovery.

What i liked about Larry was how he would love all ethnicities of Boxers fairly & not just side on one especially by common association.

I read somewhere that he left his first Sports writing job due to his Boss in editor not wanting him to cover Black fighters, it's that kind of integrity & no BS that was admirable.
