Not read anything on him lately. What is the state of him now?

I think I recall reading a while back that he was over his myterious illness that he suddenly got before the Ibragimov fight, but not heard anything on if he's fully recovered, if he's ready to train, who his next opponent might be, or when they suspect he might be able to fight again........

    Anyone?

    Wasnt it hepatatis?

if so then he is done, its a shame because he WAS the 2nd best fighter in the division.

I hope it isnt anything serious, Chagaev could be the one to save division.

Word is out that his next opponent will be Taras Bidenko
Chagaev flew back from his home city to Germany in order to watch Bidenko's last victory over George Arias.

Here's a question for all of you:

How many believe the fight with Ibrag was called off because of Chagaev's supposed illness?

I dont know if he was ill or not, Im not a doctor but I sincerly doubt he pulled out because he feared losing.

I mean he took on Ruiz, Sprott, Virchis and Valeuv, whilst not the best or most feared in the division, they are certainly some guys you would avoid fighting if you didnt have too.

I sense there could have been other factors involved. Personally I think Vladimir Putin pulled the plug on the fight so that he could bring over an American, a popular and revered one at that. And then a Russian fighter could get a win over an American, therefore avenging Ivan Drago's loss, reasserting Russia's power on the global stage and preventing a fighter from a breakaway former Soviet republic from denting russian pride.
    Its all political.

He is rarely seen in Hamburg at the gym and has a reputation of being secretive.

I for my part rank both Virchis and Valuev ahead of Ibragimov.Chagaev certainly didnt avoid figthing feather fisted Sultan who had drawed with Ray Austin and went the full route with Osokin.
Besides he was forced by his promoter to square off against his stable mate and friend Vladimir Virchis. He for sure didnt like to fight him,and neither he nor Virchis didnt land any telling punch within the first 11 rounds of their encounter.Almost no punches were thrown in those first 11 rounds.
Obviously Virchis was Chagaev's friend,a heavy handed friend whose firepower is feared among all boxers who have ever seen him fight.
Why the hell should Chagaev duck a feather fisted small Russian fighter who drawed with Austin and went the full distance with Osokin?

I don't think the fight was called off due to anyone being afraid of losing, no.

I do think, however, that they saw that their unification fight was not getting the press exposure and hype they were expecting, and they saw that at meaning the income would not be what theyl were hoping for................, and so they came up with the illness excuse, in order to put together something else that would, hopefully, make them more money (Holyfield Ibragimov fight).

I don't think Chagaev pulled out of the fight due to illness, no. I think they both agreed to call it off, and the illness was an excuse to tell the press..........But that's merely my opinion.

There are two versions. First one is that he couldn't negotiate with Peter Claus(his promouter-Universium Box Promotion). Peter just wanted to give him only 2millions out of the total 6 millions for his victory, but Chagaev wanted more. The second version is that he was really ill. It's exactly not because he feared to loose to Sultan. Just remember, he was only 19years old when he beat legandary Cuban boxer Felix Savon.
