Switching will not really give you many advantages.

The only time I find switching to be usefull is against a southpaw. Most southpaws are not used to fighting other southpaws, so if you can be comfortable in the southpaw stance, it may bother them a bit. Of course, it's just as easy to southpaws from a conventional stance, you just need to know what to do. (My gym was full of southpaws, so I kind of like fighting them)

Just perfect orthodox first. Southpaw can be really useful to get new angles, give your jab hand a rest if you're a righty and jab with your power hand, but really, it should come later because you need to relearn everything pretty much; all your coordination and balance.
