At the time of the defeat to Warrington, I was saying that this lad needs to jump up 2 weight divisions not just 1, and that’s exactly what he’s doing in his next fight. He says that he carries more power in sparring before the boil down. It’ll be interesting to see what he’s got.
I've heard him say he's going to lightweight but I hsvnt seen any fight news yet. I've also heard him say that he has a lot more power in sparin and he seems to lose it as he cuts weight. We shall have to see how he fairs at his new weight. I wish him all the best but I will be surprised if we see him with a strap at lw He's had a great career and has made some decent money, he achieved quite a lot and was ibf fighter of the year.
He’s a classy operator on his day. The British lightweight scene has some good opponents for him in particular an all welsh clash with Joe Cordina in future? You’ve also got Burns, Coyle, Cardle, Dodd amongst the others like Hyland jr, shafiq, Ritson.
As a boxing contest Selby v Campbell would be great to watch. I am looking forward to seeing Selby at LW too.
I have never seen a boxer so dead at the weight as him....It must have been semi life threatening to be training hard for a fight whilst not eating or drinking....
I worry Selby is in the who needs him club. He isn't s ticket seller is a very hard opponent does not have a promoter. Biggest mistake he ever made was leaving Matchroom.
Tbf to Lee, it's only with hindsight that it wasn't the right move to leave MR. Al was throwing money a round at the time Lee went with him. He got $600,000 for Montiel couple that with the dream of cracking the American market and you can understand why he chose that route. Although he got paid well for Montiel, his performance in that fight was what prompted Al to order the nails ready to seal his fate. He was soon forgotten by Al after that and fought the rest of his defences on MR shows where you can bet Eddie enjoyed reminding Lee what a mistake he's made each time he opened his wage packet after the fights. He would of been better staying with Eddie all along imo also
You can’t knock him or Degale for trying but they both left at just the wrong time. Literally as they left Eddie and matchroom blew up to a whole new level
Lightweight is a good decision by Lee both in terms of potential fights to be made and health. Any news on who's promoting him?
Wants to fight 2 jaded & faded fighters - cracking ambition from Lee Selby. Whatever next - entice Kevin Mitchell out of retirement, have a crack at Nick 'Back Injury' Cook then finally a big grudge match against Michael Gomez?
As cynical as it is, that was my reaction when I saw it. It seems he’s picking the easiest opponent for the most amount of money. And I wouldn’t mind normally, but it’s not as if he’s gone through a Murderers row of fighters, he’s had a weak reign at featherweight. Hopefully after 1 of those 2 he challenges himself. I’m laying all my hopes on the younger brother of the family now, hopefully he comes good after the problems he’s had
