Iagree on that count. Yeah, Lee wasn't done yet, but he was taking a beating and the fight was all but over. Vera had gained the upper hand.
So true. As the fight went on, I found myself pulling for Vera. The biggest upset in sports today did NOT happen in the NCAA tournament.
Lee's punches had nothing left in them on the last round. Vera was walking right through them. You're right, I can't guarantee Vera would finish him.... but he was CLEARLY battering Lee the whole round...that was a 10-8 round without a knockdown if the fight wasn't stopped. Vera would've been the fresher of the two going into the 8th round, while Lee looked confused.
That last left hand snapped Vera's head back. Lee was landing his share throughout the round and it wasn't that one-sided. But, all moot now, Lee blew it. This is a perfect set-up for a quick turnaround rematch, if Vera would take it.
