I'd really appreciate some responses on this.

I'm a pretty successful amateur (38-4) who recently was forced to leave the UK and move to Malaysia for work and girlfriend purposes. I have found a new boxing gym over here and so now have a new trainer. He has been really good so far and has helped me out particularly with my footwork. However he has been mad criticising my left hook saying that it is a big problem to throw it and then not come back immediately to the right. I am being told that I should never throw the left hook and move off to the left unless it is a check hook when the other guy is coming in on me.

Now, this just feels wrong to me. I like to spin off to the left after a left hook. And I'm not saying that I am anything like Floyd Mayweather but my style (because of my previous trainer) is pretty similar to his (although nowhere near as refined) and I'm watching him throw the left hook and he _always_ spins off to the left.

What are your opinions on this? I'm quite concerned because everytime I don't come back immediately to the right he is giving me **** and to be honest I don't want to abandon what has worked nicely for me thus far. Am I wrong? I won't argue anyone here as I am in no way suggesting I am right. In fact it is more likely that he is correct.

Stepping off to the side while throwing the hook is a good move. Don't listen to your trainer. He is talking complete shite.

38-4? Seems spinning off to the left is working fine

Musta be another joke thread. Amateurs don't box. They brawl and wait till they hit the button of a glass-chinned opponent.

I'm living and training in Malaysia at the moment. Unfortunately I think I'll have to stop fighting because the sport is beyond unpopular here. People are more into Muay Thai, which I loath and sparring with those guys is a joke. I used to train in Warwick. My brother is still training there now. Thanks for the responses, peeps.
