It's basically set in stone that Muhammad Ali is the greatest heavyweight. Lewis is up there. Either him or Ali.
Lennox Lewis was a great heavyweight.He was also stopped by 2 heavies that were B- at best.He was NOT the greatest heavyweight ever.Those who are obsessed with this nonsense need to get over it in the same way that the Vitali fans need to get over the fact that it was a good cuts stoppage when he lost to Lewis.So sorry that I offended all of you out there.
No, thats Ali for me. He was in a golden era of Heavyweights, Joe Frazier, George Foreman and Sonny Liston are the best 3 wins for any heavyweight champion in history for me. He also has a plethora of decent wins like Quarry, Shavers, Norton, Williams etc, this puts him ahead of Lennox. Lewis was in a good era his biggest notches being Holyfield, aged Tyson and probably Vitali Klitschko , these names dont have the same impact for me as Ali's notches. He also missed out on Riddick Bowe which would have been a huge win for him and looking back he should have beaten Wladimir Klitschko as well. If he added Wladimir and Bowe then maybe you could make the case... What is often overlooked with Lewis is the amount of very good wins he got, the sort of wins that fall short of super fight status but still have talent. Tua, Ruddock, Mercer, Golota, Briggs, Bruno, Morrison < all of those guys would improve todays heavyweight division.

Vitali Klitschko was most definitely Lewis' greatest win. VK is a Hall of Famer, and was operating at a very high level at the time of their fight. Holyfield were great win(s) although you nary see it mentioned he was 36-37 years old when Lewis got him as compared to the plethora of excuses Lion lovers put forth to convince people Vitali's a **** fighter and Lewis was old. Why would Lion fans work so hard to paint Vitali as a **** fighter when he's the best Lewis beat? No clue.

I have to differ, Ali fought smaller fighters back then--except for 220 lb. Foreman--who he roped to doped. Lewis' resume is more impressive because he fought the bigger, more dangerous fighters and knocked alot of them out. I think beating Vitali K is one of his greatest victories. Beaten up early, he showed great heart in his win.
I think the reason why he is so highly regarded is due to his depth in his resume. He has a lot of great wins and fought virtually everybody he could accept bowe (not really his fault) and it's not like Byrd, moorer or old foreman would have made his resume much stronger. Despite this, the reason he falls short to the likes of Ali is that he doesn't have a Frazier, foreman, Liston on his resume and a slightly past prime Holyfield is his best win. I feel he comes in around 4-8 on most top 10s however anything higher or lower a struggle to accept however like we saw with Ali the longer he has been retired the longer he appears to become appreciated as a greater heavyweight
