linear/lineal

    ok so whats the difference between the two, if any. and if there isnt, then why do people say them?

    I've heard some people try to make distinctions, but it's like splitting hairs, so insignificant I can't even remember what the difference was supposed to be.

    As far as I'm concerned they're just slightly different words that describe the same thing.

    lineal is the proper english term, linear actually doesnt make sense in the context meant.

    i never knew what was the difference betweenthe 2 either 2 b honest. I hope some1 here could xplain it

    lineal - descended in a direct line, derived from ancestors, belonging to one lineage

    linear - mostly technical meanings: depending on sequential development, characterized by an emphasis on line

    So lineal in the boxing contest is more apropriate.

    In boxing it means the same thing so don't worry about it.

    Just one of those silly mistakes that grow into fact over time, it is definitely lineal.

    Another example is when footballers refer to their "favourite right/left foot" rather than "favoured left/right foot".
