Lloyd Honeyghan never gets talked about too much but how would he have faired against more recent welters both home and abroad???? Cant think of any brits like hatton, khan, brook etc that would beat him and i think he would give trouble to any top foreign fighter too including mayweather odh, pac etc
I think the last 3 you mentioned would all have beat him comfortably,mate. Anybody less he would have probably have had a chance with. Out of the Brits you mention I make Hatton around evens with both at their best. The other two no. I remember him beating Don Currie,one of the biggest upsets ever,but I believe Currie had weight trouble. Whatever,he was never the same again. But after a few really good defences neither was Honeyghan. Had clear losses to Starling and Mark Breland.
Honeyghan had a short prime, he was not the same fighter after the first Vaca fight. The Starling and Breland fights were seemingly 'pick'ems' but with hindsight Honeyghan was shot to pieces for both bouts, his right hand was mangled and he had lost his fighting spirit. The unbeaten Honeyghan was a different monster. People rightly point to the Curry fight as a career high, but before that The Raggamuffin man showed what he could do when he went to Italy to fight the unbeaten future multiple world title holding Gianfranco Rosi and flattened him. I think in his pomp Honeyghan was as good as any 147lber this Country has produced.
I believe he would have beaten any recent brit welter when in his prime and beaten many other world champs but i do agree he would not have beaten fmj though floyd has not fought a welter as mobile and quick as Lloyd who hits as hard.
I think a big problem with Honeyghan is that he's seen as a bit of a *****. I remember Hatton fighting Mayweather and him being asked about it in the build up and totally dismissing both Hatton and Mayweather as fighters. He came across as a very bitter man wearing a ridiculous fur coat. Always a shame when fighters act like that. It's why larry holmes is some bloody unlikeable.

Mayweather would beat him. I'm not so sure about DeLaHoya or Pacquiao. He'd beat the crap out of Hatton. Honeyghan is underrated.

I agree he was a very good boxer puncher who at his best was hard to hit with anything clean and though I agree fmj would beat him it would not be an easy night, people say khan would give fmj problems ( I don't agree) then Lloyd, though not as fast was much much more tricky and hit much harder his reign was far too short and a shame but outside influences again spell the end of a fighter seems common especially with us brits
