Here's the deal: You're the next Frank Warren. You can pick any fighter you want and match them up with someone low-risk who will bring money to the table and make your fighter and/or his resume look really good. If you come up with some decent suggestions we could launch ESB Promotions and take over the market. PS: It doesn't have to be British fighters.
I quite liked the idea of Cleverly vs Hopkins being discussed in another thread a day or two ago. The fight should be IN America, so they don't cry about the decision later on (as they usually do when their fighters lose in the UK), because Hopkins is a bigger name there than anywhere else (therefore more exposure) and so he can beat the legend in his own backyard. Cheekyvid, I reckon Enzo would work but mainly in the UK. PS: Once he beats Hopkins Cleverly can go for RJJ as well and complete the Calzaghe double.
Erik Morales for Kell Brook at welterweight or frankie gavin at light welter. Morales is a modern day legend and would sell out the MEN no probs. Whether he has anything left is another matter. Oh well, I can dream......
Good call, and very Warren-like considering that a similar trick was pulled off with a famous rival of Morales.
Paul McCloskey's route to a world title shot: - Andriy Kotelnik (May 2010) - Juan Urango (August 2010) - Nate Campbell (November 2010) - World title shot (March 2011) :yep
NO NO NO Dont put anybody in with Hopkins no fighter that goes in with Hopkins looks good they either win badly or are beaten and embarassed and are not the same fighter again Trinidad, Winky, Tarver, Pavlik all were never the same again even Taylor never looked good again after Hopkins same with Calzaghe who won but not exactly decisive stay away from Hopkins! I would personally have a round robin tournament with all Brit Heavys atm Fury Price Sexton Rogan Williams Chisora would produce some decent scraps and would definitely have fireworks in and out the rings with the personalities and rivalries. Would raise the profile of Heavyweight boxing in Britain
yikesyikes I was about to post a brainwave I just got for the heavies! Not saying this would be low-risk, high-reward (it would be high reward but not so easy). How about a heavyweight super 6, USA vs UK? -Fury -Chisora -Sexton -Chambers -Arreola -Kingpin That would be one hell of a tournament! Hopkins really looks past it now. Trinidad was blown up, Tarver was never really good to begin with. Besides, even if you do lose against Hopkins, just having him on the resume is a bonus.
Roy J Jnr against Tony Bellew, that Id love to see. If Tony has the ability to get anywhere near his chin its curtains......Another guarenteed sell-out crowd.
Sounds good, it would probably have to be in the UK though (would certainly attract many many fans), now that RJJ hasn't shown much in America for years.
Winky was way way past his best when he fought BHop , Winky of 03 - 04 would have given Hopkins the fright of his life back then .
