I did not see the Lyakhovich/Valuev fight. Lyakhovich seemed to go quietly. Why was this? I thought he was a good fighter, gave both Brewster and Briggs hell. I thought he would beat Valuev, and now he's disappeared along with Ibragimov. I haven't found a video online.

Kenny Weldon his former trainer said that Sergei after the Brewster fight just quit listening to him and would not train hard. He was easily winning the Briggs fights and all he had to do was not get KOed in the last round and he did not listen to his corner and tried to slug it out.

Yup, I also remember reading he was negotiating a fight with Toney.

    It seems he is retired.

I just did watch it on youtube, and it was awful. Liakhovich was not the fighter who went to war with Guinn and Brewster.

 Sergei doesn't listen to his corner at all. Weldon almost had a ****ing heart attack in the Brewster fight. All you can hear is him yelling "Get off the ropes Sergei, get the hell of the ropes" or when he had him in the corner saying things like "Sergei why dont you listen to me" in a sad voice, or when he said to him "If you think you could trade punches with this guy, your crazy". And when threatened to throw the stool at him for not listening to him.

One hell of a fight Brewster/Liakhovich, with more fights like that the division would not be having the problems it's been.

I think he and Brewster took enough out of each other to cancel out their relevancy.

Brewster and Lyakhovich ruined each other with that fight.

Sergei is not an intelligent fighter nor a hard trainer. That's why he is likely done. When he fought Briggs, Briggs was throwing about 4 punches per round. He was way up on cards going into the last round and then he laid against the ropes for Briggs to hit him. That's just stupid.

He has some talent, but unfortunately I do not think he is mentally strong enough to put in the training time or to learn the craft.
