I don't think Mac should retire though. Aside from Kelvin Davis, he's my favorite fighter to watch get punched in the head.

he was well conditioned and prepared for all on comming fights for starters.

I'm mystified as to why Frank Warren has seemingly 'abandoned' big Enzo.

After letting David Haye **** him up, he put him in with the vastly underrated Ola Afolabi, before unleashing the hard punching Lebedev on him.

Warren, who is well known to wrap his starlets in cotton wool, either didn't do his homework on these opponents (highly unlikely) or simply wants Enzo to move on (to cage fighting?!)

Really strange scenario if you ask me, truly baffling.

I'd like to wish the big guy all the best for the future though - he comes across as a genuinely nice fella..

Enzo had 2 options on the table from Warren.

A Undefeated Russian or a Can. Macca chose the Russian and the rest is history.

Not Warrens fault

He should of faught a can. You dont get right into guys like a undefeated Russian like Lebedev from that kinda brutal Ko you had in your last fight...

Ill admit it took balls, but it was a dumb move and he ****ed himself over now. Hes pretty much out of top 20 CWs right now for sure.

 

Yup, as was mentioned earlier, Haye didn't ruin his career - he just highlighted what people had missed.

Weak defence but a weaker chin. Perhaps more importantly though, completely incapable of beating a decent come-forward boxer with speed of hand. Haye showed that with impeccable ease.

You couldn't wish to meet a nicer bloke though and he should get a pundits job with Sky and replace Glenn McCrory. Or anyone, please.

 

Some of your guys are far too harsh on Macca.He had never been a great fighter in the first place.........long before Lebedev stopped him.
Macca was and still is a very decent cruiser weight fighter who can now and then upset the applel cart as he did against Braithwaite and beat fighters who are on par with some of his victims like Gunn,Hobson,or Abdoul.
I for my part dont think that he is shot and over the hill.
Haye knocked him out.So what? Tons of fighters have been knocked out and come back stronger than before.
Afolabi knocked him out.Well,**** happens.Lets not forget that he was way ahead on points at the time he got stopped.He is a human being,a decent fighter,but not a great or oustanding one.**** like this happens.
He can still make some good bucks in the paid ranks,but he for sure should fire his matchmaker.
Totally insane to match him with Lebedev in his first fight after he had been knocked out by the Afolabi.atsch

I don't know, Odo, I think you have a tough case to make here. Enzo was no doubt a world class fighter, but that time is past.

I really believe that there is this certain intangible "it" that fighters have. "It" is really tough to define, it could be a physiological thing, mental, timing, no one really knows, but when it's gone, it's gone. You could have made a case for a comeback after the Haye fight. Getting knocked out once is not a career death sentence.

But, with the Afolabi fight, it was pretty evident, that certain something was gone. Enzo was doing ok in that fight but you got the sense the Afolabi was in control of the psychological geography of that fight, that is too say, he was dominating the landscape even in the rounds he was losing. Something about Enzo's timing was gone and then came the steep drop off in the late rounds and the knockout.

The Lebedev fight is the sort of fight I hate to watch. A guy who doesn't have "it" but still has the heart to step in there taking a beating with no ammo to keep the other guy off. Enzo looked two steps slow, no timing, no punch, and really no way to take shots. "It" had departed. And once that happens, you're never the same fighter.

One word to those who say stuff like "he's ****" or call the guy a bum, you people make me sick. Without guys like this that are willing to dedicate their lives toward training and pouring their energy into the sport of boxing, you have no sport of boxing. Not everyone is Ray Robinson, obviously, but guys like Enzo that bleed the sport and are willing to sacrafice their young years to give it a go deserve respect if for nothing else, keeping boxing alive in a time when it's a back burner sport.
