No major shock as he has looked awful ever since GGG destroyed him.

Just a shame we never saw him fight Murray or Barker.

    Good luck in retirement.

Gave us all some memorable nights and imo it is the right decision because his last fight against Brian Rose showed how far he had slipped because in his pomp he would have stopped Brian pretty early.

Barker v Mackins would of been a brilliant fight back in 2010. Glad he called it a day, should of been World Champion after the Sturm debacle.

Yes solid fighter in his day, fringe world class but should of been champ after the sturm fight. That was a genuine robbery on the cards I felt. Also gave a good showing against a past his prime but elite level Martinez.

Will have fond memories of his Steve McLaren-esque iFL interview he gave shortly after the unveiling of MGM in Dublin, where he spoke with an Irish accent... astonishing really after only being there a week.

    All the best in retirement.

This provides more of an incentive for the winner of Murray & Groves, as the loser of the bout faces a similar fate as Macklin. He can hold his head up high but the fact is them defeats have taken it out of him and he's retiring at an age when most fighters are at their very peak.
