I hope Macklin does well over in the States. He is a fair talent and I have to agree with Rooq in that a good trainer can do his game wonders. I don't think Macklin can win a world title but European definately. He could even get a world title shot but would have to be lucky to win.

I like Billy Graham but I think he is living off of Hattons success to a certain extent. Fighters like Ricky know only how to fight one way, he can't be improved by a good trainer - only trained well, if you get what I mean. ;)

There was talk of Macklin switching trainers after his defeat to Jamie Moore but they stuck by eachother.

That was a great fight and although he lost he really went up in my estimation - I hope the change serves him well.

I think a switch in trainers could serve Macklin well , basing himself between Ireland and America could also work very well for him .

Macklin is meant to be fighting on the undercard of Andy Lee's fight on the 2nd of February and I hope that isn't affected by this .

Could be a good move. IF he can get a trainer who can concentrate 100% on him he could go onto to major honours, I dont think he is world class though.

    So the rumours were true!

According to boxing scene.com Macklin is now going to be trained by Mayweather Snr in his Vegas gym.

Matthew Macklin's choice of a new trainer is as ironic as it is surprising.

The Irish-Brummie has left the guiding hand of Ricky Hatton's mentor Billy Graham and plans to move to Floyd Mayweather Snr.

"I felt my career needed a new direction,” revealed Macklin.

“I learned so much from Billy and I'm very grateful for the time I spent there but I felt in a way that I was in Ricky's shadow a little bit. That was fine at the start because it was all part of the learning curve. But I felt that I wanted more than physical aggression. As an amateur I used to box a lot more and that side of my skills has not moved on as I would have liked in the pros so linking up with Floyd Mayweather Snr. should certainly help on that side of things.”

Former stablemate Hatton, of course, received his first defeat last month from Mayweather son, Floyd Jnr.

Should be a good move for him, does anybody know who he was sparring with at Billy Grahams gym? I read an interview with him a bit back just before he fought Jamie Moore and when asked who his sparring partners were he only mentioned Ricky Hatton.

Think he also sparred with Brian Magee in preparation for the Moore fight.

I think anyone who trains with Billy Graham is going to be in the shadow of Ricky Hatton. I think Billy is an excellent trainer, though he has copped some in the aftermath of the Mayweather fight, some deserved, some not. His guys seem to lack a plan B - though it could be said that Hatton didn't need one until Mayweather, whilst Macklin has lost two fights, one which was a robbery, and the other at a weight division he should have left.

Good luck to the kid I say.

maybe he'll never be quite world class, but i wouldn't base my opinion on a narrow points loss 4 years ago.

he'll do well with the right training and management.
