The problem with this fight was that Abdusalamov never looked out of the fight. It was extremely competitive and he seems only one punch away from victory. At the same time he had taken a beating . Really an unfortunate circumstance where a fighter is hurt but is still involved in a competitive bout which obscures the need for a stoppage. The only thing I thought was poor of his corner was telling him to basically ignore all the pain that he was feeling. His comments regarding his nose and face, plus the obvious beating he was taking before the corners eyes, should have had them atleast evaluating or asking Abdusalamov if he wanted to continue. As far as I know they did not do that. Really makes Steven's corner look fantastic.
Really hope he gets better.. Mago is a warrior. I had my suspicions after the McCline fight, but he proved me wrong last night.. Mago would DESTROY Wilder, Perez would of had glass jawed Wilder out of there in a round!
JESUS! here i was thinking that he's still going to go on and do something in the division, only to now see this. i hope he makes a full recovery.
He stablized for awhile, but then the swelling got worse. They had to surgically remove part of his skull late this afternoon.
:good These same people saying that his corner should have stepped in, are the ones saying that Stevens quit. There are only a couple instances that I can think of where a fighter should not have quit, i.e. Alexander vs Bradley.
Me and my buddies were there last night and even from our seats we could clearly see Mago continuing to look at the big screen tv and checking out his facial injuries.It was horrid and his cornermen ought to be ashamed of themselves.
