    hey
i've had no amateur fights yet.. however IF i am good enough, is there still enough time for me to make the olympic team (engl)?

i know foreman won the olympics with less than 2 years experience, but that was in 1968.

    thanks

looking back at how i proposed the question, i realised how absurd it sounded:yep

i've been doing boxing since i was 13. im 20 nw.
i've done plenty of rounds of sparring, i know how to box, i've had a few unlicensed fights but never got down to having proper amateur fights unfortunetly.

if i was to win everything in the next 1.5 year - novice aba and aba (which is no easy task!- i know). is there a chance i can qualify for the 2012 olympics?
will the aba even enter me into the olympic trials? or do you have to have a certain amount of fights...etc

    thanks :good

    Short answer: No.

You would have to get through guys who have a hundred fights, and they would most likely dominate you due to their experience. Also, the Olympic team is put together well before the Olympics. The '12 team might even be put together now...I have no idea when the trials are, but you have to get through a bunch of Qualifying bouts too.

If the Olympics is your goal, think '16. You have 6 years to get ready. A better option, if you're that good, would be to go pro, because nobody really cares about the Olympics anymore, and you'd be 26 by that time. That'd be late to turn pro, but it's been done before.

For now though, I'd focus on getting some bouts in and seeing how you do. 2012 is out of the question, to be honest.

if you compete in the olympic team qualifiers and you win, you will then compete in the olympic team semi finals and so on. If you keep winning you will make the team. As far as i know the olympic teams are not picked yet. You have about 1 year before they start qualifiers for the teams.
