i'm sick and tired of seeing old greats going on too long or making a comeback... should there be mandatory retirement in boxing? what age should it be? should it be different according to weight class? (heavyweights can generally go on longer then smaller fighters)
No mandatory retirement IMHO. I've seen fighters who are shot and should retire at 26 and I've seen guys who still have it and are fighting well at 36.
good point. thats the problem i suppose, it depends on the individual case however surely there comes a time when fighters should be forced to hang'em up
Freedom and personal liberty is a RIGHT...There should never be any sort of age limit on anything. That said, boxing should be unionized and care for it's fighters medically...and more or less tell them when it's time to hang em up.

That has the same problem as age, its just an arbitary figure. One boxer could fight 500 rounds and be relatively unscathed while another could fight 100 and get the **** kicked out of him every fight. If you are going to force retirement on boxers (which I'm against from a personal freedom point of view) it must be done on a case by case basis.
oh i disagree....seeing hopkins floor calzaghe {in some peoples eyes the current pound for pound best} and lose on a close split...then that tells you that while the old guys can do it..let them... these men have earned the right to be there...these are the guys who have been through years of fights, not to mention all the years of training...us folks watching the tv and saying they shouldnt be fighting is wrong...we should never have that right.
we also have the rediculios situation where people like riddick bowe and kevin kelly are still looking to fight on when they're clearly not fit to be taking punches anymore the best thing to do would be for the medics to assess every fighter on his own merit and decide wether or not they should continue to fight
1 international sanctioning body, 1 international boxing commision, and mandatory bi-annual exams by a medical review board.
Well, we will have to take this on a case by case basis... I mean... You have B-Hop which is totally in shape and at his age I don't have a problem to see him fight again. On the other hand you have Evander who's still fighting when he really doesn't have any reason why to continue...
Will never work. IF a organization doesn't let you fight, they goo to the other. If a country doesn't allow them to fight. They go to another country.
No. It depends entirely on the individual. Some should retire young, some can rightfully last longer. Depends on the case.
