How does this one go? I see Marciano taking a few bombs, maybe even getting staggered before making Baer quit. On a bit of a Marciano fix atm.
Baer doesn't win any of these fictional match-ups. After he killed Campbell, he hated fighting, didn't train, and never reached a great potential due to emotional reasons.
On paper Baer should get it if he want's it enough. In practice he probably finds a way to f*** it up.
I like Marciano to win this but regardless who takes it, it would be a fantastic fight . Two very tough and durable men who hit extremely hard and liked to brawl. The crowd would definitely get its money’s worth.
I don’t rate Baer,I think he’s way overrated by many on here yet this is one fight I think he has a real chance with. If Baer’s up for it I can see him landing pretty regularly on Rocky who lets face it doesn’t mind taking one or two to get inside and land. Having said that Baer doesn’t help himself by not utilising the jab so Rocky would have plenty of opportunity to get inside and rough Baer up who I would imagine would employ dubious tactics to keep Rocky off. I think it would be a dirty fight and although I think Baer’s power would give Rocky some uncomfortable moments and even having to come off the floor the Rock outworks him to gain a hard fought UD or a late stoppage with a battered and bruised Baer rescued by the referee.
Baer had the tools to beat Rocky but not the brain or the heart or the gonads. It goes about like Louis-Baer.
Marciano far too relentless for Baer who doesnt have the skills, jab, foot movement or combination punches to worry him. Of course, Maxie had a big right hand but I doubt it would be a factor here. Bad match up for Baer - after a decent couple of rounds where i would imagine he starts fast, he gets beaten down and stopped in rounds 6-8
If Walcott and Moore could put Rocky dazed on the mat Baer could too. This one is difficult to call mainly due to Max and his inconsistent efforts. I've no problem picking Rocky to beat him but a Max win is better than just a long shot.
Marciano struggled with gamer, sharp fighters who could stick, hit, move, and had accuracy with pop. Max doesn't really fit that bill, and was beat up a bit in a foul fest vs. Galento, I reckon Marciano would destroy him.
Baer would not win on points. Rocky Marciano has a better chin, but against Baer having a good chin is life-threatening. I see Rocky Marciano winning this fight on points; SD.
Oddly I think Max gets devastatingly underrated. Prob because of his crap performance against Louis (with a broken hand mind u). I think Marciano was better and would wear him down but it’s a bad match up for him. He prob gets knocked down a few times before tiring out Max. Max at his best was a pleasure to watch…it was a short but devastating stretch when he actually took the sport seriously for two years.
I think Max Baer had the style to beat Rocky Marciano, but I agree with those who said Max Baer would find a way to lose this. I will go with Rocky Marciano by decision.
Young Max was the sort of virile, red-blooded athlete that Marciano never faced. Max could punch. And Rocky got punched. Not a great match-up for Rudy.
