At least Pacman fought Hatton at his true best weight. Gayweather made Hatton move up 5 lbs!!!! Coward!

chuvalo did in fact suffer the injury during training for joe frazier,i've heard george chuvalo talk about it many times.the thinking was they may not get the fight again if they backed out with the injury,so the bout went ahead fully knowing if frazier caught him in the same spot with a left hook he could be in trouble

Thanks, Jake. Of all the guys to fight with an eye injury...:patsch That must have been excruciating, the way he turned away. Any idea the extent of the injury/what exactly it was?

he turned away cause his eyeball was out of the socket,he could have been blinded in that eye.yes chuvalo had to have the eye socket rebuilt its now stronger then before but he had to take some time off from boxing.his wife lynn at the time wanted him to retire as did irving ungerman his manger but he did fight on until the late 1970's

why do you think that george is bigger faster and has good power himself as he clearly illustrated in the quarry fight and he has a granite chin:think

difference here is the power. Chuvalo lacks Marciano's brutal punch. I think Marciano stops him late.

i don't see a 187 lb fighter mauling a guy who weighs between 210 to 220 lbs,for sure marciano hits a lot harder the chuvalo.boxing illustrated did a mock fight between the 2 in an article in the 1970's.they had marciano winning a decision

Tough, tough night at the office for Rocky. Could last the distance, although if it turns out to be an absolute war, Marciano might stop him late with Chuvalo still standing on his feet of course.

Chuvalo was no match for slick boxers, but he was extremely strong and a tough match-up for anyone who went punch for punch with him. Frazier was a little lucky to have the fight end the way it did, although he was mostly outpunching Chuvalo anyway with underrated speed as well as avoiding the responding flurries with footwork and body movement.

It wouldn't be the first time a fighter with a considerable weight advantage was mauled.

It also wouldn't have been the first or second time Chuvalo lost to a man below 190 lbs.

Not to mention George was already shopworn at the time ... a 1962 or so wold be a tougher match up ...

lol I wonder if mister ever watched Dempsey Willard one of the biggest weight differences

Dempsey certainly mauled Willard, although Willard wasn't a very good fighter even in comparison to chuvalo
