Marciano was extremely powerful with either hand. He also was mentally tough and one of the best conditioned boxers of all times. He would KTFO of Tyson. Marciano was fearless. People bought, and still do, into too much hype on Tyson. For all the trash talk...Tyson at his best was a weak minded bully. Years before he fought Holyfield, I said if they ever fought that Holyfield would win by ko. Everyone laughed but asked why I thought that. I said because Holyfield had no fear of Tyson and that Tyson was weak minded. Take it to Tyson and he will fold over time. Look at the fight with Mitch Green....yes Green lost. However, Green caught Tyson with an upper cut and he froze because he was hurt. Marciano would have taken Tyson's head off. Ali would have beaten Tyson also. Read Ali's appraisals of Marciano. He was much tougher and allow me to reiterate...Marciano would KTFO Tyson.
Okay did saw Marciano hit guys so hard they stayed down and Tyson just hit'em once they'd go down, again they would go down, then again they'd go down the fight was stopped,,
There’s no need for me to believe or disbelieve the hype. I was actually alive when Tyson started out in boxing and so I was able watch his career unfold with my own eyes and make my own judgement but anyway I’m still curious on how you can go from picking Tyson by easy early KO to Marciano winning by having heart if they fought by 1940s rules? What are these 1940s rules that makes such a extreme change in your pick of the winner?
Good glad someone asked. do I believe Tyson would knock Marciano down sure,, Would he get a 3 knockdown rule to win the fight in modern boxing I could see that,, But,, the difference between Tyson and Marciano was the heart,, As with all of Tyson's oppenents, Marciano would get up and in the 40's he would break Tyson's heart and score the knockout for sure!
Personally having watched Tyson career from basically start to finish, I think it a big misconception in the current online generation that Tyson had no heart. Even in his most high profile defeats, against Douglas and Holyfield, he showed plenty of heart and determination even though he was getting a beating. Against Lewis when he clearly shot, even Tyson knew after the first couple of rounds that he couldn’t win but still, he hung around and took some prolonged punishment from Lewis. Would Marciano have fared any better in Tyson’s situation? Still it’s your opinion but my pick would still be Tyson and I don’t think he would need the 3 knockdown ruling to KO Rocky ether.
The times of each two were completely different , so to was training , conditioning and diet of boxers . Pretty unfair question honestly . The times are too far apart to really determine who was better .
Good post man we disagree on this topic but respect your view! Thanks for the educated reply unlike some other posters i've came across on here!
I could see a way for Rocky to win because Mike has been down against a few guys and Rock had some pop. So there's always an on the button chance for him. But realistically Mike would outweigh him by 20 to 30 lbs in the ring, while still being much faster than Rocky. Heart isn't enough against a guy who weighs 2 classes above you.
