I don't think so. He gave Marciano all he had in their first fight and lost, and older fighters who do that usually lose the rematch. (Morales-Pacman3, Pryor-Arguello2 etc) It looked like they quit, and maybe in an odd way they they stayed down instead of getting up, but they knew they were going to lose. Also Jersey Joe said he blacked out during the count for just a moment. If you watch his face he does zone out around 4-7 or so, then he jumps up like a man whose overslept, but it was already too late. I would bet he didn't take a dive.

Nope. He put up a serious fight the first time, and was knocked unconscious big time while ahead on the cards.

In the second fight, he was hurt and simply didn't want to carry on. I suppose he was after the pay day, and didn't want to put himself through more punishment. He didn't take a dive tho

Nah,....The Rock caught him with a good right uppercut to the chin...Joe went down with a thud...and got up at the count of 11...I read that Joe said he blacked out for a second during the count...

he got hit and floored hard and he just missed the count.
maybe he didnt have the desire to get up on time or maybe he was genuinely and thoroghly disoreinted by the punch.

I think he screwed the count up and got up too late.
Eitherway I think deep down he did not want to continue. He probably did not want to go through another grueling affair with Marciano and when he got hurt and put down he probably knew he was going to lose again.

no one was ever the same in the 2nd fight with Marciano,he destroyed a lot of guys with one fight...He ruined Vingo...He ruined Layne....Walcott...Charles...Lastarza....and took a serious toll on Moore with the beat-down he gave him but Archie fought on to another 38-4-2 record and lost to Ali 8 years later but I think the Marciano fight was one of the worst beatings he took

I have more questions on Ali Liston II than I would have on Marciano Walcott II.

Walcott did get clip and seem out of it for part of the count. Marciano didnt just tap him you know. I think Walcott got daze and just miss time the count.

Walcott had the handcuffs on, same as in the first fight. He was following the script. The rock couldn't beat him with a tire iron.

Walcott got caught inside by a clipping shot from Marciano that dumped Joe on his ass.... He just blew the count by taking his sweet-ass time to rise.... Walcott could've continued, but the friggin' ref waived it over...... That rematch sucked, as did "Ali-Liston."

    I think it's a legit kayo.

It's early in the fight, Walcott hadn't got "into" the fight physically, caught cold really. Sometimes, shots you can cope with say, in the 4th or 5th round you can't cope with in the 1st. Walcott simply didn't recuperate from the punch in the 10 seconds permitted. As Bummy said, The Rock ruined a lot of guys he fought first time around, I think the first fight between Marciano and Walcott severely damaged Walcott's punch resistance.

Walcott, when retiring from boxing after the fight apparently said (& I'm paraphrasing) "when you can no longer recuperate from a punch, it's time to retire".

No foundation for a conspiracy theory here, imo.
