Hopkins dominated his division and showed he could hang with the elites at pretty much every single stage of his career, including now. Hamed did not. Hamed left boxing after an embarassing loss, Hopkins has continued on to this stage, and still has some left in the tank. Far greater fighter than Hamed, as well as a much better fighter peak for peak. That is never the case with me. I know more about the lower weights than most in the General Forum if I do say so myself. They're one of my specialties. Barrera had a good resume, not great. Hopkins had a good resume, not great, but he continues to go on and on and pick up accolades. That is a sign of greatness. And prime for prime he was a better boxer than Barrera if we want to take that into consideration.
If Quartey & vargas ruled their divisions, was top 5 p4p and won 18 championship fights, you would have a case. Not right now though. You ask what elite fighter Naz has beaten, well what elite fight has BHop beaten that wasnt blownup? ODLH & Tito were hardly elite MW's, nor was Winky an elite LHW. I would say that p4p, FW Naz KO's MW Tito. You can say Naz wasnt prime but he was young and undefeated, not gonna say that its untrue but certainly there's not much basis for that argument...
Hopkins dominated his division fighting good fighters, as did Naz. When Naz fought an ATG level fighter in MAB, he lost, when BHop fought JERMAIN TAYLOR, he lost, TWICE!!! And he did it again when he fought an elite fighter his size in jones & Calzaghe. So basically, everytime BHop has stepped up to an elite fighter of his size, he lost! ODLH & Tito were elite by names, but they were elite WW's, not elite MW's. Dont get me wrong, BHop is definetely above Naz but there are similarities there for which if you gonna credit BHop for, you gotta credit Naz for too. I know you know alot about the lower weights, but that doesnt mean youre not biased by it. The fact is, lower weight fighters has to achieve alot more than the bigger fighters in order to achieve the recognition.
They had competition, Hamed didn't aside from the shot fighters he was beating and Barrera, and we know what happened there. Quartey arguably beat Oscar and Forrest, as well as Phillips(Verno and Vince), Carr, Espana, and a draw with Lopez. I'd say he had the better resume than Hamed for sure, and was definitely a better boxer, more effective. He'd have tooled a Hamed level fighter. Anyway, the point I was making was that they were better than Hamed, not exactly more accomplished. I agree, but I'd rate the Tito win above the Hamed win, given the fact that Tito had proven himself at MW and was favored over Hopkins, and was a better fighter in every sense than Hamed, both in terms of resume and skill. And Hopkins actually dominated Tito more thoroughly than Barrera did Hamed. The Hamed from the Barrera fight that literally did nothing all fight long other than hold out his paw? Pathetic performance, I'd take Tito to stop him. Watch the film, he was clearly past his physical peak, and he never accomplished anything afterward. Word has it he was getting less and less interested in training by that time as well. Add to that he just turned in an awful performance.
