Mares injured

    Don't know if this has been posted before so apologies in advance if it has but i just read on ESPN that Abner Mares has torn a retina in training and is now not fighting on the Hopkins-Pavlik undercard.

    How bad is a torn retina these days? I know in the old days it could end a career but i'm presuming its fixable now. Does anyone have any idea how long he may be out for?

    Depending on the damage, but it can very well be bad enough to make him retire.

    ****. I hope not. Its bad enough when any athlete has to retire early due to injury but its even worse if a young, talented pro with his entire career ahead of him has to.

    Hope hes going to be ok.
