what makes fighters marketable? obviously its having good wins against really good opposition, but even then sometimes its hard for fighters to bust onto the scene. what else do they need?
Above all, personality....whether it be the ability to be hated by the masses or adored by the masses. then what the guy above the guy above said lol.
Depends on what you mean by Marketable, if you mean being able to fill up a hometown arena, then just being relatively crowd pleasing and personable is enough. But if you mean Mayweather and DLH, level. Well that is something different. A guy has to be able to tap into other streams of Media, have a character to sell, and the skills to back it up. Olympic Medals certainly help though.

being from the u.s. and having a gold medal would definitley be a huge step in that direction.. and doesnt hurt having handsome features. from there its all up to how you choose to represent yourself and how you choose to express yourself on a personable level with the world i suppose

At the very lowest level a promoter needs a fighter who can sell tickets so a fanbase is essential. At the highest level it's charisma (De la Hoya), notoriety (Mayorga), attractive fighting style (Gatti), menace (Tyson), backstory (Miranda), power (Abraham), amateur credentials (Lewis) and often a combination of some or all of them.
Olympic medal, fight style, looks, controversial character, record, division and many others I'm surely missing. Olympic medal is the best start any pro can dream of really. If it's Gold that guarantees attention his entire career.
