I remember he fought Margarito on the undercard of the first Morales-MAB fight. Seems like ages ago now. At least he's finally getting some recognition and making a couple of decent pay-days.
Why not cool? He's had a very accomplished career, even if he retires today. Just because he's only been on American TV for a little while doesn't mean he wasn't paying his dues in the sport for a long time before that. He doesn't have that one massive win (Pavlik or Williams in a rematch would be it) but he has several solid ones, which is more than most can ask for even across a thirteen year career. He's a great talent who's earned respect no matter where things lead from here on. Aging overnight and/or getting blown out by Pavlik won't change that.
i am training with martinez, if you think he is in danger of slowing down, you might be a little surprised when you watch the pavlik fight
He does seem like a gym rat. Much like Hopkins, his dedication to keeping healthy and in shape combined with his awkward, almost spoiling type of style (not taking undue amounts of punishment) could be a good recipe for longevity.
he is a gym rat, loves to train, always positive, very different to some of the other champions i have seen that act like kids told to go to their room when they are in training camp
All i would like right now for sergio after pavlik beats him is for him to get a rematch with Cintron, he deserves a W over cintron, i dont like using the 'robbed' word too much but, really. Martinez deserves a win over cintron, and he would work him again should they fight so id like him to get that fight. Also, another nice win for him would be a matchup with Angulo. Hopefully there are plenty of fights there for him after this one....
